Does anyone else's sugar drop sometimes when they get anxiety? This happened to me two hours ago--the same time it happens in many instances: 11:00-11:30 AM.

I went out to the supemarket near my building and started feeling a little anxious. I had forgotten my Xanax. The anxiety increased and I soon got that, what I call, he-be gee-bee feeling that I need sugar. I am not diabetic but I have gotten these sugar cravings throughout my life and recently they often go hand-in-hand with an anxiety epsiode.

I drank a bottle of Snapple while shopping. (Of course I paid for it. :D) I also opened up a box of sweet granola bars and had two on the 5 minute way home. Like all the other times, once I drink/eat something sweet I start feeling better. After about 30 minutes, I am 100% again.

Thanks.

ive had blood sugar problems too that get worse with anxiety. when i get anxious it makes me feel weak and shaky sometimes. and it scares me so i get more anxious. i dont get a sugar craving though. and like you i am not diabetic or anything. the doctor said i can just feel it adjusting or something. but anxiety does throw the blood sugar off. thats why i get anxious about if i wont feel like eating because i have to or ill feel even worse. so mine is more like a circle effect. ugh

purplerose,

Thank you for the quick reply. Except for the sugar craving, it sounds like we're in the same boat.

I did not know anxiety can throw off blood sugar. Thank you.

Yeah, that is is an ugly circle of not wanting to eat but having to or else.

I'm glad you guys wrote in about this, because it affects me also. I wasn't totally sure what was going on.(was it all in my head) But I also feel better when I eat something. Thanks for your input, I understand it better now. Have a great week!!! :)

I get the same problem. Sometimes it really freaks me out. I have noticed that I mostly have this problem on the weekends when I'm not on the same eating schedule. Through the week I stay on the same schedule and I am eating every couple of hours or so. It happens to me much more often when I am anxious or stressed.

Wow! Thanks for posting about this. I have always complained about the same thing but the Dr's tell me I am imagining it. I have been tested for diabetes and even have a meter and strips to check myself and never have a problem reading. Makes me feel better to know it is not just me.

purplerose,

Thanks again.

star 12 and Shaky Susie,

Looks like we are all in the same boat. At least we know can rest a little easier.

yup i was tested with those diabetic meters and strips too and it came out normal. i hate needles so that tells you how bad i wanted to know what was wrong. they said i just feel it more than some other people. like if its dropping or up too high. so i try not to have a lot of sugar and caffeine cause that can make it worse.
