I just realized that one problem I have is that whenever some celebrity suddenly dies, or some murderous person goes into a mall or school and shoots up the place, and it was discovered that they were on antidepressants I would get an anxious episode followed by depression.

I think the reason for this is that because I don't want others to perceive me as a mad man or murderous. Then of course I have those "not so wise friends" who don't know that I am suffering from this disorder that make insensitive comments.

I guess some of my anxiety comes from hiding my condition and feeling guilty about it.

Hi! I have made a decision that I will not watch CNN anymore. I have often dreamed about something I saw on CNN and the dreams aren't good. If we are trying to keep our thoughts positive, then why would we watch news which is 99% negative? I am watching HGTV or Discovery Channel or what is even better are the old comedies that they have on the pay TV channels! You have to laugh at Raymond and shows like that! Don't watch the news, it does you no good!

My thought on keeping your condition a secret is that if your friends make negative comments about you, or talk about you behind your back, are they friends? I don't think so. You may be surprised if you make a comment about how it must be very difficult to deal with depression or anxiety, to find that your friends actually care - they may think its 'cool' to say negative things.

You will always wonder what your friends are thinking if you don't step up to the plate and be honest with them. I don't mean to tell every single person you meet, but choose one person who you think you can trust, and go from there. This is when you will find your true friends!

Good Luck!

Probably a good idea to stay away from any kind of shows that upset you.

As for the anxiety you feel over hearing stories about people going crazy, keep in mind that MILLIONS suffer from anxiety and depression but that doesn't mean they're all out shooting up malls and such. But yeah, it is wise to share your struggles with only a select few. That's what the peer support is there for. :)

The good news here is that you are learning the tools to overcome anxiety, fear, anger, discouragement, disapointment etc instead of burrying your feelings.

I would stay away from heavy doses of the news for sure. With the way the medical profession is handing out these strong medications left and right and leaving people to administer these drugs to themselves, it is only a matter of time before we see more of this tragedy.

Let's pat ourselves on the back for working towards learning these tools. Keep on working and then we can share the good news of this life changing alternative with others!!!
