Any physical distraction works for me -even just doing the dishes, as long as I do it for at least 15 minutes or enough time to break the train of thought. This program has actually been helping me keep the house clean because I hate housework! I'm sure you could think of something more fun than that though. I'm sure when you start listening to more of the tapes you will get some ideas on this, as this is what the program is all about. And read the posts here. You will get some good ideas.

Hey. WELCOME TO THE PROGRAM !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Remember that anxiety won't hurt you, it can only make you feel uncomfortable. You are okay, you just don't feel it yet. When you feel nervous don't let the feelings scare you, tell yourself that it's no big deal and do something to take your mind off of it. When it comes to those scary thoughts you still tell yourself that it's no big deal. Some people have thoughts that they will hurt someone or they will do some frightening thing. You won't do those things. Most people on this site have those thoughts. And you have to believe that you won't and that that is just your anxiety ridden mind playing with you.

When you get anxious listen to your relaxation tape. Try to listen to it at least 3 times a day. You don't have to lie down for all 3, you can listen to it while doing things around the house. Start cutting sugar, caffiene, and salt (if you're eating a lot of junk food you're probably eating too much salt),from your diet. If you smoke work on stopping. If you drink too much (and you know if you do), cut down on the drinking. All of these things are in the proram. You will be amazed at how much your anxiety will go down when you eliminate these things.

Take care. DeeDee.

perhaps its because I'm not at that lession yet.
Why cut out the salt and sugar,
What do they do to the body that causes anxiety.
God Bless.

Sugar causes anxiety by making your blood sugar to rise and fall. This unbalance causes so much anxiety. Cut sugar out of your diet and you will notice a dramatic difference in your anxiety. And if you have a few pounds to lose, you will drop those too.
Salt causes you to retain water which then causes the anxious feelings.
