Dizziness when facing triggers!!!
Hello everyone!!I need some help.My anxiety is really high this week.Time of the month always seems to make it worse!!Anyway I've been noticing that when I get put in a situation where I feel trapped I start to get dizzy!Can anyone relate?I get that way in the shower.I face this fear everyday and it still happens no matter what!I know that it's all in my head because I'm not dizzy before I get in.Then when someone comes over I'll get this way.Don't know why.I have agoraphobia so when I do go out I get dizzy!This is really starting to freak me out!!!I'll go through phases where I'm doing pretty good then all of a sudden WHAM comes the symptoms and I just can't seem to get them under control!My mind just keeps thinking "Oh no something is really wrong with me!!"I was just wandering if any of you have had this symptom and simular problems like this?Thank you so much for any advice.
Hi Fearnot - I've noticed that since I started
the Program I'm more aware of what triggers my anxiety/panic, etc. and for a while it really bothered me - but its tapering off now and I believe it is because with our new awareness - it sometimes brings a level of jitters with it. Personally - I look at it as a victory, a growth spurt, whatever you want to call it. Its like everything else - when we can accept certain things about ourselves and give ourselves permission to be human - the fear seems to vanish and we take a step forward. I try to trust in myself more when these things come up. This too shall pass. Laura

The best thing you could do for yourself is to put yourself in situations that create that dizziness - not just once, but over and over and over again until it no longers bothers you. Use your tools through this exercise. Thought stoppage, calm breath and attention shifting.
Run around in circles to make yourself dizzy. Really feel the experience, again using your tools to help you through. You will soon desensitize to "dizzy" and a weight will be lifted off of your shoulders.

Fearnot-
I have actually made my shower a refuge. I have been known to shower several times a day. LOL! This all came about when I was really anxious one day and I went and got in the shower. I just turned it on a comfy temp and started to imagine I was in Hawaii, under a waterfall in the sun without a care in the world. I have even been known to buy the tropical body wash to enhance the experience. LOL!! OMG, can't believe I just put all that on the internet. Oh well, maybe it will help you.

What Boon said was really good advice, minus the running around in circles- Don't do that. You would have to be in that situation to really know how it feels.
I was lightheaded/ dizzy for over 15 years (24/7) and you have to, like boon had said, do the things and put yourself in situations that makes you dizzy, and then use your skills to calm you down. For example, Positive selftalk, deep calming breathing, and distracting yourself. Try purposely focusing on other things around you instead of the dizziness. Know that feeling dizzy/lightheaded wont hurt you, it will only makes you feel uncomfortable. You have to push and challenge yourself to get out of this. I know that's a horrible thing to say, because it was the worst symptom I had, but that's exactly what you must do.

Fear not,
Funny you wrote this because that is how I am feeling right now! I just got done steam cleaning my floor and WHAM, there it is again. My heart was beating so fast because I didn't take a break and just kept on moving around the house like I was nesting from fixing to have a baby. I am not pregnant but that is how it felt. I feel like I have to get everythin done and it is driving me crazy not to be able to get to it all. Anyways, I feel like that in the shower as well and when I am alone it is the worst. I also get dizzy when I am around alot of people which really freaks me out because I feel like there isn't enough air for me. I know how stupid it sounds but that is how I feel. I get on here and start writing and pray when I feel like I need it right then. I also found that facing what does it helps, like with me I get dizzy at work and almost quit instead I have stayed and now I don't get that way anymore. The shower thing I crack the shower curtain and it might help to play music something you know that you can sing along too to get your mind off of it. I have told my husband about it and now he checks on me to make sure that I haven't passed out which I have done when I have panic attacks just not in the shower. It helps me to sit and do breathing excercises and then start telling myself I am fine this will go away. I did that today at work. I have been having bad anxiety these past two weeks and it had pretty much gone away intil I started working now it is back. But I am not claiming it because it is going to go away and I am going to be fine! Just think about something or what you are going to do later on in the evening. It will get your mind off of what your fears are and on to something else. Calling someone (as long as your not in the shower)lol is something that helps me. I feel like I get my mind off of things faster like that. I hope some of these things help you and know that you aren't the only one because I am feeling dizzy right now and I have to go pick up my daughter now so I pray that I will be protected and that I will get there and back fine! God Bless

If you want to get over the fear of dizziness then running around in circles is exactly what I'm recommending. It won't hurt you. You will be safe. It's an exercise that will help you to desensitize to the fear of dizziness. When you are ready to move through this fear then this is one I highly recommend.
Remember when we were children and we rode the little merrigoround? One person was on the outside pushing the ride around and the others were on the ride. It's good fun and that's another thing you could do. Go to the children's park and ride the little merrygoround. Have someone push it for you while you are on it. When you feel that dizziness use your tools. Breathe into the feelings. (Calm breath work) Comfort yourself by reminding yourself that you are safe feeling dizzy. It will pass.

Hello!Thank you guys for the advice.Jennifer you said that you've actually have passed out from panick attacks.That is my biggest fear and has been sense I got this anxiety about 12 years ago!Now I'm kinda really freaking out.Not your fault.I'm really afraid that if that happens that I won't wake up!Can someone please help me with this fear?I'm really scared that I'm not going to be able to handle it.
Fear Not;
Please do not freak yourself out. You won't pass out from an anxiety attack. You can possibly pass out if you hyperventilate tho. That is why it is so important that you control your breathing. If you do pass out for some reason you will wake up. Trust me on this one ok. I have suffered from anxiety attacks for most of my life, at least 20 years. I have never passed out from an anxiety attack. I did pass out once when i was pregnant, but that was for a whole other reason, and here is a funny for ya. I was in Wal-Mart with my 1 1/2 year old son. I was fine. I felt it coming on and was able to take care of it. No harm no foul!
A wise doctor once told me, "You are borrowing troubles from tomorrow, and what you are worried about may never come. Save all that energy for the times when something does actually go wrong." I do understand how you feel, we all do. Just remember to breathe like Lucinda teaches in the relaxation tapes and you will be fine. Let me know how you are doing.
