I would have it checked out with a dr just to be safe... but it could just be anxiety. The first place I feel my anxiety is my chest, between my breast. I start to feel pressure like something is sitting on my chest and sometimes I feel a lump in my throat. If I dont do anything... it continues on and can get very bad. I have had shortness of breath, pain, and I thought I was having a heart attack.... it was just an anxiety attack. Usually something is going on that makes this happen, but I have had them on great days, for no apparent reason.

Also, indigestion can cause severe symptoms. Keep a record and see if its worse after you eat. Try a tums or rolaids or some type of antacid and see if it helps.

With either of those.... I try to lay back in a recliner and close my eyes and take slow deep breaths and think some happy thoughts. Try a relaxing CD and if you have this program, do the relaxing medition tape. Try not to focus on the pain, but on your breathing.

I hope this helps. :)

Hi Lisa, So you can rest assured, an irregular heartbeat will show up on a simple EKG everytime. A regular heartbeat is measured on a EKG strip. Without getting too technical it measures what is called the P wave and the QRS complex. When they do not beat at regular times and skips or delays then it is what is called irregular. Anymore questions please feel free to ask or email me. I just happened to come across these responses. I am still not up to speed with all this thread stuff. take care and breathe!!!!!!!!!

So, since I've had many EKGs done (albeit, they were all quite some time ago...haven't had one in about a year) and they've all been normal, I just need to convince myself that my heart is fine? Or do I go to my doctor and get another EKG done and get blood work done? I just don't know where to go from here...

Lisa:
I feel so bad for you that you have this worry on your shoulders. I think you may be obsessing over it too much and focusing on it making it worse for yourself. I know a lot of my symptoms were the same when my panic first started at your age and I too went through what you're going through. Try not to obsess over it and enjoy your life Lisa. You're young and you need to enjoy it. Both of my parents passed away young and it is very hard NOT to think the same fate for yourself but if we spend all of our time thinking about it, we may miss the precious time we have here on earth. I wish I could take away some of your worry and fear. You have some REALLY great people here leaving comments that truly care and understand. I know it's really hard with your family history but if you take the time to do the best you can to take care of yourself, that's your best defense. At least you have the opportunity to know that history to take the measures to protect yourself.

I really hope you get some answers soon and relief from this constant fear and know that we're all here for you. Please do follow through with your doctors and get the answers you need to have peace of mind. I'm sure you're going to be alright. Keep with your program and DON'T BE AFRAID. DON'T let this disorder control you anymore.

Take care.

Lisa, Please read what I said again. THIS IS ANXIETY! If your EKG's are normal, you're just worried that they all of a sudden changed - No, THEY DID NOT! Are you really working this program?
I feel for you and it's hard not to obsess but you still remain focused on the obsessive thoughts. Look that imagined heart attack right in the face and SAY GO AHEAD, ATTACK ME! YOU DON't SCARE ME - that takes away it's power! They are only thoughts. I hate to be so Dr. Phil ish here, but you're using the fact that your father had a heart attack to think that the same version is going to happen to you - STATISTICALLY THAT's IMPOSSIBLE, even more so since your last EKG was normal. It's just an excuse to keep avoiding things and not stay in the precious present moment, and not do what you want to do.

Again, what is your REAL FEAR? Is it dying because you think you're unworthy to live? Is it not being good enough? Is it failure? Is it abandonment because if you die you'd be alone?
If these make you cry or sad, I apologize, but it's really necessary for you to get to the root of this fear to get better.

P.S. THANK YOU GRACE777 FOR THE COMPLIMENT OF WORDING IT CORRECTLY! IT IS THE WAY IT WORKS, ISN'T IT?

I would suggest you read deeroads reply. Then I suggest you print out a copy of that reply, then I suggest you tape it to your bathroom mirror and read it over and over and over. If you where going to have a heart attack, I think you would have had bypass surgery by now. Heart attacks are very acute. Once they get to the point of "attacking" you either have to dissolve the clot or bypass the clot asap. So take a deep breath and take those tapes and start at lesson one over and over until you get it right. Then move to lesson 2 and so on. This can only work if you give it power to work and that also works in reverse. The chest pains work because you give it power to work. Thank you.

I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.

Lisa... I know EXACTLY how you fell and what you are experiencing. RRT2007 has given you the BEST information, which should re-assure you. Please read everything he said agin. I experience the exact symptoms as you do, and MORE, have had the same tests, and everything is normal, Normal, NORMAL! So why do I feel this way? Remember how powerful your mind can be. I had every test, including a trans-esophageal sonogram to check my heart. It's supposed to be more accurate than an external sonogram (Yeech! It's like a garden hose down your throat). Once again, NORMAL!! My compulsive analytical mind drove me to spend hundreds of dollars on medical references (What are they missing? What do they not know?) to no avail. Reading more and more only gave me more anxiety. Because I am not medically qualified, of course I couldn't interpret the texts property to apply the information. Only gave me MORE anxiety.

I don't want to add one more thought to make you anxious, but if you are that concerned about your family history is IS worth checking out further, just as a precaution. Try a stress test if you want, but it's probably a big waste of money. My blood tests were what my doctor called a "laboratory standard". So consistent and normal it was unbelieveable (and frustrating). My ECG's were consistent and I was in "amazingly good shape". Somehow with all these wonderful reports, I did wind up having more plaque in an artery than I should have had at my age (56). They placed a stent in an artery as a precautionary measure, so now I'm even MORE normal. My arteries are clean and clear, but I still have the pains, tightness, shortness of breath. nausea, etc. NOT symptoms of heart attack, but ANXIETY! Remember to BREATH! And don't believe everything your brain tells you!

P.S.
Remember what RRT2007 said about PVC's... keep a journal about what you were doing, what you ate/drank, about 30 mins. before your symptoms occur. It could be anything from a food allergy to caffeine, etc. For me, it's too much coffee and sometimes sugar. See if there is a pattern.
