Stopped Panic

Thanks for posting your success... it gives me hope and reassurance as I battle panic attacks. I have had an increased number of attacks lately but the last couple of times I have been able to stop them at about a level 3 as well. Those 6 steps really do work. I had one last night at a 4th of July party and I started to feel so scared and like I needed to run. I started to do the breathing and reminding myself that it's only panic (I was a little concerned people would see my belly rising with the breathing but no one seemed to notice). Then someone changed the topic of conversation and I was distracted right out of the panic attack. But those first few steps of breathing and accepting and self-talk really nipped it in the bud.
I thought to share this because it's helping me to see that even though I had some panic for a bit last night, I don't need to beat myself up for that, but instead to pat myself on the back for effectively dealing with it.
Keep those success stories coming.. I think we all need to hear about them!

wow that is great!!! I agree I like it when people post how well they are doing because it helps me realize that I can do it too. I start to notice differences in my ablilty to control my anxiety and keep it around a level 4. I try to focus on that part rather than thinking I should be better. I hope everyone is doing well. Thank you
That is so great to you guys that are able to reduce the panic down to a 3-4! That's the answer to it all. I have to drive my daughter 2 hours away down the Cape alone with her (she's 10) and I'm panicing about doing it. It keeps me up at nite and I'm doing all the positive thoughts and mediation etc. I've been able to do so much more these past few weeks than I have been in the past 6 months that I know I am getting so much better. BUT....this drive alone on the highway with my daughter is scaring me.
Here is the question: I just want to know if I practise accepting, floating and breathing if the panic does arise while driving her there, will it reduce the panic? I don't mind all the physical heart palpations, or turning stomach...I just don't want to experience the disorientation and all that spaciness that goes along with the panic. Like I said..I'm driving to places that used to scare me and going to the doctors, dentists, etc...and doing so much better...I'm just hoping all these skills I'm working on will be just as effective driving her down the Cape!
Great work everyone...I really feel we are all going to be just fine very shortly!!!
Thank you!
