It sounds like you are developing a good set of tools to work with when you get anxious. Keep working on them and reinforcing them and in time you'll have the confidence to face your fears, which ultimately eliminates the anxiety since there is no worry to fuel it.
Large areas
Hello All...
I too experience these exact same symptoms when in large buildings and large areas outside.
The dizziness, feeling floaty, nervous, afraid to faint or lose control and embarrass myself!
I have had this problem for 15 years...And depending on the day or the year..I have used different ways to cope..
First of all if I am having a "bad day" I will not go out! If i'm feeling like I can tackle it I will bring my "safe person". I have ducked into a isle with no people in it before. Long enough to calm myself, It does help if I talk to people and smile at them..if my level of anxiety is low..If i'm in panic mode..I try to calm myself..tell myself to knock it off! It's all in my head,,Usually it will stop long enough for me to just get what I need and get out!
I am new to the program! Just recieved it today!
But I am not new to the disorder!
I have seen a therapist and this was his advise to me..
when you walk into a large building and you feel overwhelmed.. bring in your vision..don't take in the whole large view of it! Just look at what is in front of you. walk slow, try to focus on the products in the store. This has worked for me..before I knew it, I was in the back of the store without an close exit in sight! AND I somehow didn't even notice my safe person had wondered off and I was ALONE!
This doesn't always work for me. It really does depend on the level of anxiety..It has to be low for this be effective for me! I hope this helps!
I hope it helps me tomorrow too! I have to make the dreaded trip to the grocery store today! I have been up all night torturing myself with the anticapation of it!
