Moderation being the key, I would say go ahead and have your one or two cups a week, don't worry about it. If it bothers you enough, you will want to quite and you will then know for sure weither you need to cut it all out or not.

I have switched to everything decaf....even my Lattes....my green tea is also decaf. My Doctor and I have noticed that my resting heart rate has decreased...its actually better. I don't notice a difference in taste in either one....with the adrenaline a amp in coffee or tea is really not needed. I'm sure you will be able to find a balance....If caffeine is that imperative to you try one cup half caff and half decaf......Find the balance......its there.

I have done this caffeine test on myself and I have to say today I had two pepsi I can handle that okay but it gets my heart feeling like its punding harder. If I drink a coke then one and I start panicing. I won't be drinking coke's anymore! If I don't drink any caffeine I will not have a panic attacks at all! Caffeine no matter what people will tell you does effect people and their bodies a lot. I had a doctor tell my step mom that caffeine doesn't do anything to cause anxiety and Boy what a lie that was. I guess some people just don't understand because they don't have it. She was also told it was all in her head and she was making up all these symptoms, well that is somewhat true but the symptoms were real she might had been causing them but they were there and we could see them all. Just thought that I would share.

I see a lot of people are switching to diet or decaf to give up sugar and/or caffeine. What about all the drugs in those?? Caffeine and sugar occur naturally, nutrasweet and decaf coffee don't. I guess the answer is green/herbal tea and water but I personally don't think it's worth living without an occasional white chocolate raspberry latte! :D

Personally, I don't think there is anything wrong with caffeine here and there. Based on experience, I have went months without sugar or caffeine and didn't see any difference in my anxiety symptoms.

I for one, can't imagine giving up caffeine entirely, and just thinking about it makes me nervous, but I have cut down to one cup of caffeine (coffee) daily, and the rest decaf. I can sleep better that way I've noticed, and haven't been doing it long enough to feel a big difference yet with anxiety. Hopefully in time I will. Anyhow, for all whom have cut down, or gave up caffeine, good for you, and you should feel proud. :) Take care!

Good for you for switching to decaf, I know how hard it is to give up caffeine. I go back and forth but mostly have been able to give it up. I feel that it makes a huge difference in my anxiety level which is why I have been trying to go w/out it. It is not easy but so worth it. Every time I crave it, I try to remind myself of what it does to me and that usually is enough for me to avoid it. Hang in there, like all habits, it takes time to get used to doing something different.

I have been caffeine free for about 5 months now. I used to drink coffee at least a latte in the morning and soda(s) at night. Plus I would eat a lot of sweets and chocolate. I gave it all up cold turkey because I was having such bad anxiety. I don't really miss it, and I think I am a lot less irritable and anxious. I could totally relate to Lucinda on lesson 5 when she talked about caffeine and sugar causing irritability and anxiety. I did eat a small piece of chocolate cake a few weeks ago, and although it tasted really good, I felt the effects of the caffeine and sugar for over an hour. I dodn't panic or anything, (I used my positive self talk :))b but it was uncomfortable and certainly not worth it. So I've just decided that I'm not ready to add that back in yet. I will eat a small piece of candy now and then, but nothing compared to what I used to eat.

I used to drink coffee all day long...and then had the nerve to wonder why I was so jittery..lol "go figure" I cut down majorly on the coffee to just one cup in the morning, but I buy the coffee that is half decaf and half caffeine. Me and my husband had to kinda meet in the middle on this because he does well with caffeine..I don't. I think the switch helped me get through the caffeine withdrawls as well. I love the way coffee tastes..so I still get that little luxury in the morning, minus the jitters that come afterwards. TC
