insomnia
lael: It helped me last night to have a plan. Always when I am that anxious during the day I have trouble sleeping. So I approached it like I knew I would be up in the night. I don't think this is negative thinking, it is just accepting the reality. So I had a tape that walks you through a meditation (it is long, 30 minutes at least), and I got it ready beforehand. Then when I woke up, instead of jumping into that panic mode with thoughts like "oh no! not again, here I go again, I won't be able to function tomorrow, it's going to get worse"...I just calmly went to the living room, put on the tape, and did the entire meditation. Then I was able to fall back asleep. It helps me to have a plan.
I think you might have figured out a little more why you can't sleep well! Just admitting to yourself that your job is stressful might release some of the excess tension. You might even want to go further and talk to you boss about how you can make your position run a little more smoothly. Tell them about your insomnia..you will be SHOCKED to find out how many people deal with the exact same thing all the time.Originally posted by lael:
My worst fear is losing my job becasue i can't function I just got a new manager and a whole new course that i have to learn how to train and new proceedures to get used to so i am on overload. i just want it to end.
I am also going through a transition and with some other life stresses, I have had about four straight nights of sleeplessness. Much like "basically-sleeping-OK-now-Mom"

It took time to diagnose the problem, and it took even a little longer to relearn how to relax, but it happened. You think that you control your sleep, but not so, my friend. If you are absolutely tired enough, and have created an environment of peace and tranquility, along with stress reducing methods earlier, then your sleep will be a new habit.
Give yourself a break and know that insomnia is not a sickness, but a sign that something is off-balance in your life. In a way, be thankful to recognize this sign and spend some time evaluating a way to help yourself out.
I know that most of us would love to have a magic pill that will alleviate ALL sleeplessness, but what real good does that do in the long run?
With insomnia, when you look at the good it does (stay with me!), you are allowed to be sensitive to things that most people just muddle through. You can see the things that need changing that most people just learn to be less than happy with. You are allowed the ability to learn to relax...things other people throw aside and wonder why they are so unhappy. Use the program, use the relaxation CD and use the forum. These things create real and lasting change!
Good luck to all of us with sleepless nights!
