i was put on a beta blocker toprol xl the lowest dose for racing heart and palpatations it really worked for the palpatations but i still had the anxiety my mind would go thru the motions of panic but i didnt have any physical symtoms i had to wean off of it because my blood pressure wasnt high to begin with and the beta blocker made it so low i was tired all the time and very dizzy but like i said no palpatations and that was nice but not a cure for panic and anxiety not having the palpatations did help alleveate some of my anxiety hope this helps
The medicine I take, Norpramin, is a beta blocker. I've been on it since the early '80's. I'm also on blood pressure medication... I occasionally get the dizzy/spacey feeling, but not the full blown panic attack. I've noticed that when I "don't feel well" while driving, I usually call my husband on cell (bluetooth) to talk for a bit, and I always reach my destination without incident. I'm hoping that the progran will help me gain the skills to wean myself from all medications!
Today is my first day on Metoprolol Succinate, the generic version of Toprol XL. I am on the lowest dose, 25 mg. The reason for it is mild hypertension. The ER dr had mentioned it two weeks ago today when I went in for chest pains. It turned out to be from my larynx reflux. All the tests that night were normal as was the nuclear stress test two months ago. I mentioned this to my primary dr agreed with him and gave me the script this morning.
In addition to dealing with the the high bp, this med is said to benefit the heart by reducing chances for heart disease, and also possibly helping reduce anxiety.
Thankfully no side effects so far. Of course my fretful mind started to take flight with worrying about getting the side effects
. Thankfully I was able to ward off the catstrophizing.

I am also on Toporol XL well the generic that is. My prescribed dose is 25 mg. But it was prescribed to keep my heart from racing....so I found that 12.5 just fine. In reality 12.5 nor 25mg for strong enough for the heart palpitations from panic attacks, I don't have hypertension so it brings it down a bit. I never noticed any bad side affects at all.
I got put on a beta blocker toprol xl and I had such a hard time.I was dizzy all of the time feeling like I was going to pass out because it dropped my blood preasure way to low. I was sick to my stomach and I finally had to get off of it now Im just on zoloft 50 mg. but it has helped but not completely gone.
Oh my goodness I can completely relate to that about the toporol. Thats why I took anititive on how I felt and am only taking half of the prescribed dosage. Zoloft gave me a reverse affect. It actually created depression for me. My doctors have discovered after trying 5 diffierent ssri's that I am basically alergic to them I can not take them...........main reason I am not depressed. But there are some anti anxiety medications for people like me. Not just Xanax or klonopin. There is Xanax XL which only slowly releases for 24 hours which helps one to work with their issues at the same time without getting all freaked out.....
I was on Labetolol for high blood pressure, migraines and anxiety. I liked it, but after a few months it stopped having the anti-anxiety effects. I was also taken off of it recently because I had a really bad episode of depression, which has been going on for about a month now, and my GP said that beta blockers have been known to enhance depression for some people. I take clonazepam/Klonopin and pregabalin/Lyrica now. If I take 1mg of Klonopin it really helps, and I'm so happy about that.
