Does anyone have trouble driving?
The driving thing affects me mostly in the morning. I just try to stay focused, take a different route or listen to the session CD's. The CD's really help me, it keeps my panic in check. If I am having the what if thoughts, I often will answer them with different scenarios, trying to make the outcomes humorous. It sucks that our minds are constantly going, usually in a direction we don't want it to take but hang in there, it does get better.
For 2 weeks I did not drive because of course my first panic attack happened while I was driving. Everytime I got in the vehicle after that I felt the before symptoms of another panic attack. It is weird how our minds can convince us of frightening unrealistic things. It gets better. You have to overcome your fear. That's what I did. I got in the car and made myself drive. I still have felt like I was going to have an attack but you have to experience them before they will go away. The thing that helps me most is to focus on my baby while I'm driving (the sounds he makes or looking in the mirror at him). It also helps to sing along with the radio if you like music. Tell yourself for a while I am calm, I am okay, these feelings will go away. It will get better.
