Scared again!
Hi Ethans mommy,
I can relate to your fears. When I first heard of this swine flu, I was hit HARD with fear! I was short of panic and noticed the rest of my day was affected by it. The very next day, I sat in front of the TV watching the news for the WHOLE day! I was a wreck by the end of that day. It wasn't until the very next day, that I started changing my outlook about this outbreak. What everyone has said is true. We can't change what is. I know that's hard to hear b/c as anxious people we want to hear that everything is going to be okay. We have to try to put all this news in context. We have a vaccine for the regular flu, yet 35,000 people still die each year in the US from it but we never hear live news reports of death tolls when that happens. Plus, the antivirals we have aren't as effective against regular flu. People just have to let it run its course or succumb to the possibility of their condition worsening from it. At least with this swine flu, only one death has been associated with it in the US AND the virus IS responding to the antiviral medications. As much as it's hard, we have to try and think of this as just another sickness that CAN be prevented if people take the appropriate precautions.
Another thing that helps me is reading from the Bible. I am Christian and it always helps when I read God's word. Luvpiggy had GREAT advice and very comforting as well. (Thanks Luvpiggy)
