I had/have the same fear that you have about not getting the feeling back after I am numb. I just went through two weeks of severe dental work. I had a root canal that needed to be retreated. It leaked so much I had to have two appointments, then I had to be fitted for a crown on the tooth directly above the retreated. I asked the dentist if my fear was real. He said he was a dentist in the army and has been in practice over 20 years and has never, ever had a patient react negatively to the novacaine. It may help to tell your dentist that you have panic and anxiety. I did. He kept me informed about the whole procedure and even took breaks to allow me to sit up and take breathers. I used meditation while the work was being done. I actually spent my time concentrating on my breathing, how the air felt filling my lungs, etc. It kept me focused and kept my mind from wandering and worrying. I wish you the best.

I must also say for you to plead with your Dentist, oral surgeon, whichever, that if they are using novacaine or a numbing agent, request NO EPINEPHRINE. As a fellow anxiety sufferer, we don't need the extra agitation. They should be glad to comply. Epinephrine as you know is used in many local anesthetics, but can be nerve wracking in an anxious person. You will be fine, and let us know first thing how you did!!!!!!
