Those sound like totally normal symptoms to me. Hormonal fluctuations can be a total bxxxx, and sometimes I have this fear I may have PMDD

...but then my period starts and I take Midol like they're candy (:p) and I'm fine...until next month. ;)

As women it's just something we have to deal with, but the one thing I always remember is that in the end I really don't care about my period because the one thing I have to look forward to is the blessing of being able to have children (when I'm ready).

I have also taken vitamins and herbs from
WomentoWomen. They helped with my hormonal
imbalance, especially the herbs. They also
suggest that women with hormonal imbalances
go on The Schwarzbien Diet from the book
The Schwarzbien Principle. I was following
the diet pretty well and it seemed to be
helping. Then my husband and I went on
a cruise, and I have found it hard to get
back on it. It is about eliminating caffeine
alcohol, sugar, similar to what they suggest
with this program. It is also about lowering
carbs, not eliminating them, but balancing it.
Also, trying to eat natural foods, as little
artificial ingredients as possible. It is
a tall order, but it does help with hormonal
and other health problems.

I suffered for years and years with most of what you all are going through and now my 15-yr old daughter is having many of the same anxiety problems, and I notice that her symptoms are worse around that time. When I was going through it too I knew I had some kind of imbalance and started doing research at the library on PMS, and, since I was older, on pre-menopause as well. One day I was reaching up for a book and another book literally fell off the shelf at my feet. It was about solving the puzzle of PMS. I took it home and read it and that book saved my life. It had information on everything I needed to hear and the author had gone through it all and then became a licensed nutritionist and started a PMS center to help women with their symptoms. Guess what? She lived less tham 20 miles away from me. I called her and got an appt and started her program that saved my life. She took one look at me and said: "You have Candida(yeast problems) and I had it and now I am better and all of my symptoms have gone away." Sounds wierd I know and the medical community just doesn't recognize it so much, and maybe you will not either. But it worked for me. I went from dr to dr for years, looking for an answer. I knew I was not crazy. I had taken lots and lots of antibiotics, was on birth control pills, ate a high sugar/carb-rich diet for years and drank coffee with sugar too. Everything was difficult. Getting through the day was difficult.

That day I started the diet she recommended(NO sugar, protein, vegetables, small amts of whole grains, brown rice) and started taking supplements to kill the yeast. It took awhile, but first I had several hours that week where I actually felt good, and the rest of the days were somewhat worse and my anxiety sometimes got pretty bad. Then I had a whole day without symptoms! Next I would have 2 days in a row without my symptoms, and I thought, what is going on here? Finally, after maybe 2 months I had more good days than bad, despite my periods.

People didn't believe me when I told them because "your symptoms are all in your head." So I stopped talking about it, but you know, that was 10 years ago and I am totally fine now. I can eat a little bit of sugar, but I dont take antibiotics unless absolutely necessary. I try to watch my diet and not overdo the carbs. When I do, I feel bad and then I get scared and stop because I do not want it to come back. I can now drink caffeine without going nuts. And most importantly, I take a calcium/magnesium supplement twice a day. Magnesium is fantastic for relaxing the muscles, nerves and makes a huge difference in how I feel.

The book is out of print and the nutritionist got married and moved to another state years ago, so I don't keep in touch, but I do know that she was key to my recovery. The fact that someone else had gone through it and came out the other side triumphant and said yeah, I had those symptoms, here try this, made a world of difference. This may not be the answer for you, but it worked for me and I have to spread the word if it can help even one person. Get some books on Candida, yeast, go off the sugar and processed foods, take acidophilus and garlic to kill the yeast, calcium/magnesium for your nerves, exercise, take epsom salts baths to relax when you feel like you are going nuts, drink plenty of water with lemon and think positive. Be good to yourself.

I was rereading my previous post and think I mistyped the diet recs so it may have been confusing to read. Diet: NO sugar! Nothing with yeast in it (like bread). Just eat protein (meat, chicken, fish, eggs), vegs, brown rice, etc. You don't have to do it forever, just till you get better.

In response to what Holly J. has written, I can absolutely relate to those symptoms. As I read I sat in disbelieve beause it sounds exactly like what I go through every month. The head "tightning" really drives me cray because it causes my anxiety to go into overdrive in thinking I have something more worse wrong with me. The night time issues really bother be as well. I am not glad that anyone else goes through this I'm just glad that I am not alone. I also have Horribly bad dreams during the first coupke of nights during that time. Does anyone else know if this could be due to hormone imbalance also? There is nothing worse than feeling like this!! Good luck to all!!!

Holly, sounds like PMDD. I had the exact same symptoms that would linger a day or two after my period ended. I started taking 10mg of lexapro and do not have any PMS symptoms now, it really has worked wonders for it. I was tired of feeling like crap for 2 weeks out of the month.

I too get so off for 2 weeks out of the month. My pms week and then my period week. I actually only have one GOOD week out of the month. I'm glad someone shared that woman to woman site because I feel a lot of my anxiety started because my hormones were off balance. Before I ever had my first panic attack last mid October, about a month before that I was just feeling so weird and so fphs wanted to change my pill and that made it even worse and then I had my first panic attack. So I'm really excited about possibly trying their vitamins, although they're kinda exspensive and I already am on a payment plan for this program. I wish I could just buy the pills at a lesser price, but I want those because they sound like they're the best anyone can get. Anyway, I can totally relate. Good Luck to everyone.
