I started the program but prior to receiving it I drastically reduced my sugar intake. The first couple of days I noticed that my moods evened out and I felt very good. It's been about a week now and today I just feel awful. I'm tired, a little more anxious, and feel really down. Some of it may be PMS but I usually don't have problems with PMS. Anyone out there experience symptoms after reducing sugar intake?

Oh my gosh, I am having such a difficult time with the sugar. If I do it, I buzz around all day. If I don't do it, I feel like I'm useless. All I want to do is lie down. Ugh! How does anyone cut back on sugar? I have cut caffine out almost entirely--this from about two cups of coffee in the a.m. and 2-3 sodas in the pm. So overall it's good. But the sugar... For Pete's sake, can anyone guide on this?

It took me about two months to reduce my sugar intake. When I started to finally become aware that I was caught in a vicious cycle of using sweets to distract me from my anxious thoughts, then experiencing more anxiety from the sugar as a result, I tried quitting "cold turkey" and dramatically reducing all refined sugars. For me personally, that was a big mistake because after the second day I started having dramatic moodswings (crying over silly things, etc.) with headaches that lasted all day, ending in a migraine. Instead I decided to just pay attention to my body symptoms and eliminate things slowly. I've tried to become a more concious eater and that has helped. I really just try to pay attention to how things affect me now and take note of it. Now I've cut down to only 1 or 2 sugary items a day. That can include something as mild as an applesauce or a small bowl of icecream. My family can't believe it, neither can I really. I used to go to the candy shop and buy these cherry cordial things and I'd usually eat like 6 of them ---before I even got home. Paying attention I realize I can truely only tolerate one of them unless I want to feel totally sugar buzzed.
I'm not a professional, but I think that what you may be experiencing is a combination of the sugar reduction and the pms. I know that during that particular time for me I always crave chocolate and comfort foods. I usually just give in, but without going overboard. If you want to stay away from sugar completely you may want to try enjoying some (non sugar) comfort foods. You may also want to try distracting yourself a bit and perhaps curl up with a good movie and try to relax. I know that these things help me when I'm having pms symptoms. I hope you feel better and good luck! :)
