Ok, so here is the deal....Im prone to anxiety. have been since I was a kid. However, when I started the program 4 years ago, I had had the Mirena IUD put in about 14 months earlier and had had some anxiety during that time. So long story short, during the program, I got on anxiety meds and an antidepressant. It worked great. A year ago I had my IUD removed because it was time (almost) and had to have it out for 60 days (they run test and measure etc before inserting a new one). During those 60 days I felt great actually. Had normal periods (which i don't have anymore), etc. And then it hit me the other day--thats when I stopped taking my paxil and totally forgot to take my klonopin most of the time!! Then I got it put back in, and everything was fine I think except some mild anxiety (which was normal to me). Now Im having anxiety again, and realized that its been about 14 months since I had the 2nd IUD inserted....anyone finding a correlation here???
I googled it....and there are HUNDREDS of THOUSANDS of women with the exact same problems!! So what did I do? I called my local nurses hotline and asked questiona and they told me that 10% of IUD users will suffer from DEPRESSION AND ANXIETY!!!
For all you women out there who have the Mirena, I would LOVE to hear from you and see if my hypothesis is correct. I even called my sister who has an IUD and asked her, "Do you get anxiety?" She said, "Um..yea....how did you know?" and i said, "When did you get the anxiety?" And she said, "About a year a ago." So then I asked, "When did you get your IUD?" And she told me that it was about 11 months ago!!! And she had never had anxiety before this.
Please please let me know if you are having similair issues. I'm going to go to the doctor tomorrow and have mine removed.
