Relaxation session and updated program.

Post by dashiel1 » Fri Mar 16, 2012 5:16 pm

Hello! I was wondering if it is normal to still not be relaxing to the relaxation session by week 5, and if I can still condition myself since I have been active while listening to it a few times? Also I have the 1998 version of the program which I think is terrific! But, I called the support line and they really advocated me to purchase the updated version. (20??) I don't have the funds right now to make that purchase, is it really that superior or important? Thanks! Hope all are well.

I don't really know the difference between the versions... from what I understand it use to be geared more towards anxiety, where as now it's anxiety and depression. I can't imagine that they are that much different, and many people I'm sure got great outcome using your version, so I would think you would be fine to use that one. I can't say I have spent much time in the relaxation area. That has always been hard for me. I tried the relaxation disc that came with program... but it didn't last long. I intended to try meditation or something, but I guess I put that one on the back burner. I'm sure as like the things we are currently working on - relaxation can be learned, it will just be a gradual learning process. I think the longer we have gone without the more work it will be so to say, but it can be done. :) I think for myself right now I am going to keep working on the things that I am. I intend to do the program again after I'm done, then it will be more of just a "re-fresher" and getting the things I may have missed this time, so then I will have more ability to put more into the relaxation portion. :)

I find that when im doing the relaxation tape, i still cant stop thinking of all the stressers in my life. I cant clear my mind to completely relax. Of course im only on week 1. This is my second time around, i quit on after week three the first time, that was years ago, i have the old version too. I also find i stress over finding time to do the program, I know it shud be a priority, but so is sleep and work and church and family and friends. I mean if u do all of these things and still devote the amount of time to things they recommend for the making the program work, when will u ever be able to have leisure time? Just sayin.

I just want to say, I don't have the chance to do "all the things" everyday!! That's ok!! I have a job, a boyfriend, 3 kids (2 of them under school age) so time is not something I have a lot of!! That is their "recommendation" you don't have to do it "perfectly" I do what I can when I can, but if nothing else I make sure to devote at least 15 minutes a day to something program related. Sometimes I am able to find more time so I do more... but I am happy knowing I have done something!!

It's not the speed you are going but the direction that counts!! Do it at your pace!!

The time element is tough, to be sure. We may have to eliminate or curtail some activities or people so we can help ourself. Explain it, if necessary.

Also, relaxation might sound easy, but it is not. The mind will wander. Accept that. Just bring it gently back to focus on breathing or saying a mantra, or praising yourself, or floating in space, or in water, or sitting under a tree....whatever. Gradually you may learn to like this time with yourself. Lock yourself in the bathroom, if necessary (it's what I do) and 5 or 10 or 15 minutes will get you started. It is where I am off to right now.
