This happens to me when I am laying down getting ready to fall asleep. I guess it is because I am actually "being still" and I become more aware of the chatter in my head. I'll hear some random thought like "that clock is big" or something when I am not even thinking about any kind of clock. Whatever.
ATTITUDE -- The mind is like a parachute...it doesn't work unless it's open!!
The root of all of this is anxiety. A good book is Imp of the Mind. I read it thanks to the recommendation by others on this site. While it didnt address my exact thoughts it definitely opened my eyes to the realization that OTHERS have bad thoughts.
Anxiety makes us more sensitive. It weakens our mental state a bit and makes us more vulnerable. Most of us are very nice, emotional and creative individuals.
Therefore, if I were a mind, how would I torment my keeper. Id put forward thoughts that would be in the opposite spectrum of reality, contrary to the person itself.
Im not even there, but if you can get to the point where you can just let these thoughts pass it will become normal. None of us have had bad perpetual thoughts all of our lives, every minute. Its just during times of high anxiety and stress, our mind hits us the worst.
Breathe. Know that you are normal. Focus on just being with no expectations
