Does anyone else get mini panic attacks when listening...

Post by fenndeb » Thu Oct 13, 2011 4:36 pm

to a Session or going through the workbook? I almost want to not do it because it brings on these attacks. Is this normal? Does anyone else suffer this?

I start to get anxious on some of them, and then others help to calm me while I'm taking a bath, in a bathroom that gives me anxiety due to some tile work done by DH that causes me stress or that I see the imperfections in. Which is part of anxiety is focusing on things like that. Changes....

Yes I do get mini panic attacks. The sessions are reminders that all is not well. This feeling bring on mild panic which I can sometimes control by doing the breathing technique taught in the bonus CD. This diverts focus from my shortcomings. I don't know if they are normal. Hope you find some clue as what causes yours. I would like to know too if its normal.

I get mini panic attacks from listening to the session sometimes, and even more from listening to the relaxation tape! But I've been working through it slowly but surely. I think it's natural to be anxious when listening to the sessions, they're talking about anxiety, which makes you think about it, which of course in turn makes you kind of anxious. Just remember to float, don't fight. Float with it and it'll subside probably faster than you think.

Yes I do and I also get panic attacks when I listen to the relaxation. I "woke up" feeling very panicky and I have held off for now. But I know that I will eventually will be able to do it. I feel that it is normal.

I just started week 3 in the program. I did experience anxiety when listening to the first two. I wonder if its because I have to redrudge what is bothering me. I feel better about the 3rd session though. I am hoping, hoping, hoping I can find some relief. I had a mild heart attack in September of this year and feel like all hell broke loose with that. I am 47. This was all brought about by stress and anxiety because my testing came back neg for any blockages. I am facing my fears one at a time and sometimes have setbacks that leave me feeling helpless, hopeless and tired.

Yes. I think to myself that the new panicky feelings are a sign of progress. It means I'm beginning to deal with new issues and they too shall pass.

I also got those feelings about the same time you guys did. (I'm in the 4th session but just a little further behind than scheduled but am using the tools everyday so I feel like I'm further ahead - hope you can make sense of that! :)) They do get less severe so take heart! it's all part of the healing. You are doing great. Just hang in there and remember to breathe, relax, and go with the flow... it shall pass. Good luck and best wishes for a serene day.

This is so good to read, Deborah and so good of you to share. It will inspire and help others.

In whatever we try, we still have to do our part to reach our goal. The CBT approach aims to do it without meds but with reconditioning of the mind and attitudes. That takes time and patience. And also I think a person needs steady vigilance to preserve and reinforce the good results. Like loss of weight, for example. The initial loss is no automatic guarantee of the future. In fact, it is sometimes harder to maintain the weight loss. So we always must be attentive in our efforts.

Great going, Deborah.
