counseling,,,,,

Post by jdog499 » Sun Jul 24, 2011 5:19 am

I was wondering if anyone whos dealt with anxiety issues and depression due to anxiety have got to a point to where they had to schedule a meeting with a counselor. only thing ive done to treat my anxiety issues is take anti anxty meds. I have never sought seeing someone for it. My doc had gave me a few numbers for doctors who deal with it but i felt that I didn't need to. but recently my anxiety feels to have risen a bit and i just feel hopeless and people are telling me i should schedule something . If anyones sought help could you fill me in on how it went for you...did it help? what do you do in these sessions? ect..

I am checking into counsling as well. I think when it comes to anxiety and depression there is always and underlying issue and taking meds it just putting a bandaid on it. Talking to a counsler can help you and me get to the bottom of why we have these problems. Good luck to you, please keep us updated if you decide to try a counsler out.

Hey guys, I have been on a paxil cr 37.5 for approximately 10years and only saw a counsler in year one. In year five when symptoms came back I increased my meds, and bought the program. I only made it through lesson 4, 5 years ago because I felt like i was doing well enough and i got lazy. Now 5 years later i am doing the program again....all the way through, going to see my physician today and seeing a Counsler tomorrow. I trully beleive in order to be fully recovered we need to use all 3 avenues at first and then scale back when we are truly recovered. Since we talk to ourselves so much and create issues in our own minds, it can only help to get it out and talk to a professional. That is why they are there. Anxiety has been in my family for at least 3 generations, and i want to be the first to fully conquer it. I want to make sure if my children have issues with it, i can fully help and not worry about it never going away. I am 33 years old and obviously have been having some forms of anxiety my whole life. I am sure it will take time, but i am going to use all avenues available to get better. See the counsler, you have nothing to lose. :D

I saw a counselor eventually when I first started experiencing the anxiety and he told me that my anxiety stemed from my childhood and my alcoholic mother. That was helpful to know the source but he never really helped me in regard to using coping skills and positive self talk to help me through it. I personally felt that the Attacking Anxiety helped me more than any counselor but you may not have that same experience. I think you should at least try it once and see how it goes and then take it from there.
