Hey everyone, I haven't been on the messageboard in a while but my anxiety has been a little bad lately so I figured coming back might help some. I have a question regarding vocal chord dysfunction and the laryngoscopy procedure. I have had problems with GERD and eosinophilic esophagitis for a few years, diagnosed by my GI doctor. I finally went to see a pulmonary doctor as I have been having breathing issues for a while now (feeling like I am not breathing deeply enough, having to frequently yawn or open my mouth wide to manipulate the breathing). I also sometimes feel a presence in my throat, almost like a swelling or a lump. The pulmonary function test revealed that I may have some sort of vocal chord dysfunction, which would explain the breathing sensations.
Anyway, I have my first appointment with a vocal chord specialist tomorrow. It seems as if they may do a laryngoscopy, the in-office procedure in which they scope through your nose and down your throat to view your vocal chords. I was wondering if anyone here has had the procedure and how it went for them. I also wanted to know if anyone here has experience with vocal chord dysfunction or the breathing issues I described. I have been having problems with the uncomfortable breathing for a while now and it can be very scary. I know anxiety can cause breathing issues, but this seems to be tied into some actual physical disorder (though I imagine anxiety can make it worse). Sometimes I seriously feel like I am going to lose it. Breathing should be a natural thing, not something you monitor and notice and think about all throughout the day. I don't know anyone else who has this problem.
I am very anxious about possibly having this procedure done.

I have had two endoscopies done in the past, and I was very anxious about those as well, but at least I was partially sedated. I don't know if I should maybe ask to be given Xanax or something beforehand. Thank you for any information you guys might have about all of this.
