I have lost too much weight....suggestions?
I know I have seen others on here with this issue. I am 5'8" and weigh about 123LBS!! (I have lost 10 to 15 LBS in a matter of a couple of weeks....was skinny and had a hard time gaining weight to begin with.)
I have a hard time eating, and I have been taking some of the Ensure type drinks.
Does anyone know what the best snack or easy to make meals are that will put weight on fast. (Really want healthy, all natural...i.e., don't want to eat a pint of ice cream everyday...that is what my dad suggested to put weight on fast.)
I have always had a hard time gaining, and I would eat junk food and candy all day!!
Any suggestions on how to gain weight rather quickly, healthily. I look anorexic I think, or like I am on drugs...TOO skinny!

FrancesL,
I have never had this problem, but at the same time, I won't tell you you are lucky b/c I know that this, for some people is very, very difficult to do and to live with. The only advice I could give and I don't know if it works or not is that maybe go into a vitamin shoppe or maybe a GNC and look into those weight gainer powders or bars??? I know that some is targeted to bodybuilder and weight lifters, but, if you deal with someone knowledgable, maybe they could steer you in the right direction. Actually, even just add a few protein shakes (smoothies) to your day and a few handfuls of nuts?? Think high calorie, good nutrition. Either way, I think it's great you want to do this in a healthy way. Good Luck. (If that picture is you and recent...you look great-don't panic!).

FrancesL, I too have had this problem..being 5"8" myself, I know how uncomfortable it can be to be underweight(125 at my thinnest). I remember, at my most thinnest point asking a Dr. if he could give me something to put on weight,,he laughed, but I was so serious at the time, I tried eating Reeses peanut butter cups several times a day
and anything else to put on the pounds, but to no avail. anyways, since having my twins two years ago, I have been able to keep at a consistant weight of 152 and I feel so much better weight wise( it's the stretch marks and loose skin that bothers me..hence the self esteem issues
) My suggestion to you would be to start eating several small meals a day high in fiber and protien. along with working out with weights(not too much, just enough to build muscle tone). Protien builds muscle and , muscle weighs more than fat therefore, you will see yourself gaining weight in muscle NOT fat. to get that sexy lean, toned body all of us women want
I don't know if I explained it correctly, perhaps you could ask your physician or try consulting with a training instructor. That's my suggestion, I hope this helps. take care of yourself first!
God bless you

I have the same problem, FrancesL. I lost more weight than I'd like after having my baby because I have a thyroid disorder that made it drop a lot. Anyways, my husband and I don't like to eat high fructose corn syrup in my foods and the hydrogenated oils, etc. so that limits what we eat quite a bit. In order to maintain or gain weight, I eat 2 snacks a day in addition to my main 3 meals. If I make a salad, I add garbonzo beans for protein.
Here's a list of things I'll snack on:
dried fruit, nuts, cheese and crackers, peanut butter on fruit or crackers, yogurt, granola bars
I drink a couple glasses of 100% juice because hydration is hydration and it's a good break from water.
I also have found treats that aren't loaded with garbage (the high fructose corn syrup) and eat those. I used to love the Little Debbie treats and some of them don't have too much crap in them. Pudding packs are good.Newman makes organic cookies that are yummy! The mint Newman-O's are great.
I also eat a bowl of cereal sometimes as a snack.
The key is to obviously take in more calories and that's tough to do when you don't want to eat junk, but it can be done.
If you want any more suggestions or questions, just PM me
I've gotten so many comments/compliments on how I dropped my baby weight, etc., but it's no fun when it wasn't on purpose
We still need the cardio, too, but add the weights or core stuff, like the above post said.
All the best to you!

FrancesL,
MomOf6 is right. Try to eat 5-6 meals a day with a good balance of protein, carbs and fiber. There are also meal replacement drinks that can help. Ectomorphs have a difficult time gaining weight because of metabolism. I personally can loose weight sitting still. The only way I gain is by a high protein diet and weight training. Cardio (though good for your heart) will cause me to melt away in a short period of time. So I take the good with the bad in that regard and stick to at least some cardio to help with stress.
Anyway, two things I'd suggest is to visit the EAS website and check-out their nutrition section (http://eas.com/nutrition/index.asp). Don't be turned-off by all of the athlete endorsements. Read about Myoplex and AdvantEDGE products. I've used Myplex for years and am pleased with the product. The second thing I'd suggest is using a site like http://www.fitday.com. It is a free site that you can sign-up on and track your diet. You may find that you're not eating nearly enough and with an already fast metabolism your body is using-up reserves because you're not putting enough in.
Sorry for the long post.

Hi. You are getting some great advice.
I just wanted to say that I understand. I lost 10 - 12 lbs in March and I can't seem to put it back on. I feel like I look sickly and one of my coworkers asked me when I was going to buy some pants that fit and stop wearing my "clown pants".
He was just being silly but he is right. I'm afraid to buy new clothes b/c I am hoping to gain the weight back.
I think you are doing the right thing by drinking Ensure. Be sure and get the proper nutrition and just eat as much as you are able to. I guess our metabolisms are stuck in an anxious mode.

hey there...peanutbutter is a great snack its a good protein and a good fat and its yummy, milk is a good drink to pack on the calories.
carbs carbs carbs help to bulk a person up and they are great for anxiety. They kind a make you sleepy like eat a big bowl of spagehti and bam I could sleep on the couch all night long.
even those vitamin water bottles like propel have calories....so drink that to get your water and vitamins and add some calories.
Just some ideas.

My biggest problem as well. I eat the Adkins bars when I can't fit in a meal, I try to keep the carb/fiber/protein thing in check because low blood sugar triggers panic. I try to eat every 3 to 4 hours minimum....even if its just a snack bar and glass of milk. I'm not gaining but the losing has stopped. But I've also tried to change my diet to a healthier one and that in itself will probably change my metabolism. Keep your head up....you're not alone.
Hi,
I know how that goes. When my anxiety is worse (like now), it's hard for me to eat as I'm not hungry and I tend to obsess about getting some type of food poisoning from the food or anaphalactic shock, which I don't have any allergies to begin with! I can't really tell you anything that will definitely help, except to try to eat whenever you can. Oftentimes, if I'm hungry, but can't eat because I'm busy with the kids, the hunger will pass and I will forget to eat. I have no idea what I weigh, but my clothes are looser and right before we moved to CA, my grandmother commented that at the recent family reunion, people told her that they didn't recognize me because I was so thin (thanks grandma!).
Karmerri, that is very sensitive of you not to say how lucky she was, ect, kudos! I hate it when people look at me and say, wow, you don't look like you've had 3 kids, ect. I think that they mean it as a compliment, but for someone with anxiety disorder, it freaks you out! For a while I was convinced that I had cancer and that was why I couldn't put on weight and when people commented on it, it made me feel worse.
Take care and let us know how you are doing!
