If you like rock, the new Three Doors Down song, It's not my Time:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aHU9dN0Itrk
It is song about being on the brink and then finding your inner strength! It's kicks and inspires me, I get that rising feeling of strength inside me welling up...
Also latin dance music- I get a sassy strong empowered feeling... music and dancing are truly shortcuts to happiness. Go on with it!!

Can I just say that I LOOOOOOVE Josh Groban?! He doesn't really 'pick me up' in the 'I wanna go out and party' type of way, but he does have a comforting voice and I love the songs that he sings. "You Raise Me Up" is just beautiful.
Many songs that get me to 'get up and go' come from the R&B and hip hop genres. Just about any of those have the potential to make me feel better (especially if my anxiety level is just low...if it is higher it is much harder to overcome by music alone).

Courage does not always roar. Sometimes it is a quiet voice at the end of the day, saying: "I will try again tomorrow."

"Breathe (2 AM)"
2 AM and she calls me 'cause I'm still awake,
"Can you help me unravel my latest mistake?,
I don't love him. Winter just wasn't my season"
Yeah we walk through the doors, so accusing their eyes
Like they have any right at all to criticize,
Hypocrites. You're all here for the very same reason
'Cause you can't jump the track, we're like cars on a cable
And life's like an hourglass, glued to the table
No one can find the rewind button, girl.
So cradle your head in your hands
And breathe... just breathe,
Oh breathe, just breathe
May he turned 21 on the base at Fort Bliss
"Just a day" he said down to the flask in his fist,
"Ain't been sober, since maybe October of last year."
Here in town you can tell he's been down for a while,
But, my God, it's so beautiful when the boy smiles,
Wanna hold him. Maybe I'll just sing about it.
Cause you can't jump the track, we're like cars on a cable,
And life's like an hourglass, glued to the table.
No one can find the rewind button, boys,
So cradle your head in your hands,
And breathe... just breathe,
Oh breathe, just breathe
There's a light at each end of this tunnel,
You shout 'cause you're just as far in as you'll ever be out
And these mistakes you've made, you'll just make them again
If you only try turning around.
2 AM and I'm still awake, writing a song
If I get it all down on paper, it's no longer inside of me,
Threatening the life it belongs to
And I feel like I'm naked in front of the crowd
Cause these words are my diary, screaming out loud
And I know that you'll use them, however you want to
But you can't jump the track, we're like cars on a cable,
And life's like an hourglass, glued to the table
No one can find the rewind button now
Sing it if you understand.
and breathe, just breathe
woah breathe, just breathe,
Oh breathe, just breathe,
Oh breathe, just breathe.
I listen to this song when I'm feeling discouraged. I especially like the part about the light at the end of the tunnel. It helps remind me that I've come too far to turn back now.

I've really been relating to this song by Martina McBride lately.
"Happy Girl"
I used to live in a darkened room
Had a face of stone
And a heart of gloom
Lost my hope, I was so far gone
Cryin' all my tears
With the curtains drawn
I didn't know until my soul broke free
I've got these angels watching over me
Oh watch me go
I'm a happy girl
Everybody knows
That the sweetest thing you'll ever see
In the whole wide world
Is a happy girl
I used to hide in a party crowd
Bottled up inside
Feeling so left out
Standing in a corner wearing concrete shoes
With my frozen smile
And my lighted fuse
Now every time I start to feel like that
I roll my heart out like a welcome mat
Oh watch me go
I'm a happy girl
Everybody knows
That the sweetest thing you'll ever see
In the whole wide world
Is a happy girl
Laugh when I feel like it
Cry when I feel like it
That's just how my life is
That's how it goes
Oh watch me go
I'm a happy girl
And I've come to know
That the world won't change
Just 'cause I complain
Let the axis twirl
I'm a happy girl
Oh watch me go
I'm a happy girl
Everybody knows
That the sweetest thing you'll ever see
In the whole wide world
Is a happy girl
Oh, yeah
Oh, yeah
I'm a happy girl

That video from Three Doors Down is awesome. Half way through I realised he was trying to get there and save the little girl.
That's a good song by Martina. I'd like to meet some of those songwriters.
Video adds such an incredible dimension to the music especially when they use it to tell a story.
P.S. Chief, the 80's rocked!!!!
