I am in my first week in the program and am a little concerned with the recommendations about the diet and exercise demands. To begin with almost everything to eat has sugar and carbs, so how do I go off of them? My biggest concern is the exercise though. While my work does involve some cardio, i can't exercise really because i have extremely bad knees. I had reconstructive surgery on 1 and need the same on the other, but can't afford it. Also if I run or something, I have severe pain in my back the next day. I am not trying to make excuses really, I used to be really active and miss it. It depresses me knowing I can't play sports and things like I used to. I am also stressed about the time it is going to take for all of this, I work 10 hours a day, and have to be up at 430 am. Any solutions or comments to these matters would be appreciated!

Hi 2sharpe, You don't have to completely go off all carbs or sugars. There are healthy carbs such as cereals (without sugar), beans, vegetables. Just try not to eat things such as candy and cakes which are loaded with sugar. yes, there are natural sugars in certain vegetables and certainly in fruits, but they are necessary and very good for you to maintain health and vitality.

You have bad knees and trouble with your back, but maybe you could try just walking slowly for 30 minutes each day. Don't try to run or do any exercizes that put stress on your legs or back. Just walk leisurely. You may even find over time that your back feels better. It's hard for all of us who work and have families to find time, but if you could just fit in 30 minutes each day you will feel happier. Do this for YOU, you deserve it. Make it your time to think good thoughts and enjoy the moment.

Don't let yourself feel depressed about what you used to be able to do. That is in the past. We can only hold onto this moment and do the best we can with it.

Hope this can help you!!

I'm glad I could be of help to you! And, yes, we love to overanalyze and think of the worst case scenario. I do it all the time, but with the program I'm learning to get off the negative thoughts and go to the positive ones.

I'm the type that as soon as someone lays down some ground rules, I'm thinking "oh I can't do that, what do they expect of me??!!!" But in this case we have to do what the program suggests because IT WORKS!!!! None of it is hard, unless we make it that way. Keep on working on it and you'll see amazing results!

Good luck, Donna

Thank you for bringing this up 2sharpe as I have also been obsessing about diet and exercise. I have stopped cold turkey removing all simple sugars and caffeine from my diet but constantly worry about the weather the foods that I am eating will affect my mood.

I am working my way with the exercise and try to do some walking. It's tough to do everyday with work and family responsibilities but as change said it's important and every little bit helps.

Thanks for the encouragement guys.
