I think the first person we seem to ignore, or can’t stand to be around is ourselves. How long have you tried to spend alone? What seems to appear when you are sitting in the car by yourself or hanging at home with nobody around? We almost automatically beat ourselves up in some way or another. Whether it is something you didn’t get finished at work or something you forgot to mention to someone. Whatever it is that your mind creates, it is never anything to do with the “you” in the moment. Bottom line is, “if you can’t be friends with you, how can you really be good company for anyone else”?
When I say spending quality time with the “you”, I don’t mean taking yourself downtown to get a new haircut or buy some new shoes. I mean being humble with our inner self-that is the “true” you. Honestly we are the agony that we create. It does not matter whether you are living in a mansion by the beach or dirty alley-way behind a building.

Jason I agree completely and regret it took me so long to realize this but once I did and took measures to get better life is grand now no matter where i am or what I am doing. Once I learned to counter all my intrusive and inaccurate thoughts in a TEA form the world began to open up for me and I don't plan on looking back now. Like author Sam Obitz said in his CBT book "If I treated my friends like I treat myself, I wouldn't have any friends."

This reminded me of one of my favorite quotes:

"However mean your life is, meet it and live it; do not shun it and call it hard names. It is not bad... it looks poorest when you are richest. The fault-finder will find faults, even in paradise. Love your life." - Henry David Thoreau

DystopianWriter I was just wondering how you are doing these days? Let me know how life is treating you and how you are treating yourself? ;)
