"I'm a bad person..."

So, how do you finally get over the, "I'm a bad person... No body likes me.... I'm weird.... I'm annoying... I can't talk to people...." thing? Any suggestions?

Start turning those phrases around. Stop saying such awful things to yourself. You're worthy just because you were born!!!!!! Period. You don't even have to do anything! Amazing, isn't it....

Change your phrased immediately when you hear them to kind phrases. I am a good person. I'm creative. So what if I'm phobic. Nobody is perfect. I'm a likeable person. I'm kind. I'm interesting. I can learn to talk to people with practice. I can learn to be a good conversationalist with practice. (Practice talking into a mirror.)

Always, always, always change your negative phrases to positive ones. One day you will believe them.

Start by writing them down as you catch them. Write your positive, soothing phrase next to it. Let that become your new habit.

Huang, first you are not a bad person. The book we read in my cbt group by Sam Obitz talks directly about he overcome the belief he was a bad person and how it changed his life so you can too. Do the TEA form exercise and you will start to feel way better.

Sounds like something you heard when you were a kid; perhaps from Mom & Dad? Siblings? Teachers?

2 No body likes me...
Nobody? Noone at all in the whole world? I bet kids do. I bet your pet cat/dog does! I bet someone does, and if not, I bet someone could.

3 I'm weird...
Oh, of course what you meant to say was "I'm unique, I'm different, I'm creative, I'm insightful, I notice things others do not, I'm in touch with my emotions on a deep level... etc...

4 I'm annoying...
What? Do you get "excited" "passionate" "enthusiastic" "expressive beyond the 'norm'"?? It's ok... we are deep, we are passionate, we are exciteable, and to some who are low key, "layed back" etc. that just ain't "normal" & so we go off tbinking we are annoying. Perhaps to some we are. Perhaps to us, some of them are. So what?

5 I can't talk to people...
Ok. If anyone has this problem, here's the solution: watch the movie "Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium" and watch how the mom tells the boy to make friends and then watch how he tries to & does make a friend. In a nutshell:
Just say "hi."
