I need to give up smoking. I don't even like the taste. It's something I know I could do if my anxiety wasn't sky high right now. Tried to cut back, but not working. Nocitine gum is my next options but hae never tried it.
ANY advice, encouragements, cheers, anything would move me a step in the right directions. I can't go on with the pack a day I've worked up to....
Smokers, nonsmokers, some help??

hi bev,
I quit smoking 2 years ago and I smoked for 7 years. I never thought I'd quit. I tried the gum and it was gross and make me nauseaous. The patch I heard gives nightmares but does help people quit. I quit cold turkey. The first 3 days were horrible. I suggest starting to quit on a weekend or when you won't be working. I stocked up on popsicles and hard candy. Whenever I wanted a cigarette I would distract myself and I'd tell myself "in a half hour I'll have one" so it didn't seem so bad. I didn't really plan it, I just did it randomly. Also, surround yourself with people who are not going to get on your nerves or tell you to just got have a cigarette. You need supportive people around you. Also, maybe a good book? Something you enjoy doing. I also started walking when I was quitting and the fact that you can breathe a little better and smell things better make you want to quit even more. After the first 3 days the physical withdrawls go away. I hope this helps a little. good luck!

aliengal, yes it helps and makes sense. I will shoot for this Friday and if I slip, will not give up. I know if I put them out of the house, I will do better than having to see them sitting there. I want to quit in two weeks before I go to my parents for the weekend instead of trying to cut it to one or two a day while I'm there, sneaking them. Isn't that hilarious for a 40 yr old??? I'm going back for 4 or 5 days at Thanksgiving and want to be over them for good. Thanks for the good luck wish!
