I started going to a chiropractor last week for muscle spasms. I chose to go to the chiropractor because I was afraid of the side effects of the meds the doctor prescribed, increased chance of heart attack, ect....

Now someone told me going to the chiropractor is dangerous because it can cause a stroke. So, I came home and googled away and saw all the different info...now I am freaked and woke up 3am with my first real panic attack in a year.....I am terrified now of having a stroke...I am obsessing about every ache...Wondering would it have happened already or is it something that could happen days from now.....Afraid to call my primary doctor because I just started going there because my doctor for years retired. They will probably think that I am crazy! Just need someone to talk to!

I've been to a few chiropractors in my life for neck tension and muscle spasms. I don't believe seeing one can incur a stroke. However, chiropractots work on bones, not muscles. So I would suggest seeing a Physical Therapist or an Acupuncturist. The PT really worked for me :)

Hey Andy !

There was only 1 time I've heard of someone having a stroke while going to a chiropractor. The stroke happened right then and there. (probably due to a pre-existing medical condition) Chiropractors are safe. Just make sure they don't adjust your neck. I read not too long ago where a chiropractor adjusted someone's neck and it killed him. Also an attorney friend said that if I were to go to one, NEVER EVER let them do your neck EVER.

Today, chiroprators are gentle and they don't cause pain. Many doctors don't like chiropractors because it takes the business away from the pharmacy. There are WAY more medications that can cause strokes)

Don't worry about it. Find out all you can (negative AND positive things about it) and make an informed decision.
