When I was in 7th and 8th grade I would go with my friend to visit her dad in Kansas. Each trip (the whole two times I went) I was super homesick and would not have a good time and one time I ended up going up early because I worried so much I kept making myself sick.
It not only hurt me because I didn't want to feel that way, but it also hurt her she is my best friend. She ended up going to college there and to this day we are still best friends. We talk everyday and I get to see her when she comes home from college. I promised her I would come for her graduation this May, and although I have come a long way with anxiety, depression, and OCD I am scared it might trigger those feelings I had back then.
Does anyone have any advice? I am going to see her and I WANT to have a good time Im just so afraid it all those feelings will come screaming back to me.
taking a trip that's a trigger
How about telling your friend that you are having anxiety feelings and if that happens, how she could help you. I always found a hug helped alot, and also letting the pressure off myself to "look perfect".
Have you learned "so what, I will handle it" yet? You can talk back to the anxiety, you know. It only can squirt adrenaline. It's up to you how you respond. Since you have come a long ways as you stated, your response likely has changed.
Good for you for going. Go and you have met your goal. Keep trying, but don't aim for perfection. Aim for improvement. And who cares if you are anxious, etc.? It's uncomfortable but not dangerous and doesn't prevent you from doing anything you want to do.
Have a super time. I'll pray for you.
