I was making supper tonight, and was thinking about how 20 years ago tonight, my boyfriend and I went to a fancy French restaurant and he proposed to me. I was in the throes of a panic attack that night, and now 20 years later I am still dealing with this junk. I have learned a ton and feel I'm doing better than then, but Jeesh,... is this my destiny? Will my tombstone say "what if...?"

This is quite possibly the biggest fear of everyone here. We have to believe we can beat this.

I think its about learning to accept the way you are and still love yourself. I've had anxiety for 15 years, but since I did the program 2 years ago I've improved dramatically. I think that for me I will always be a bit more anxious....its just me and although at times I hate myself for it, I try to accept myself the way I am and carry on with life.

YOU HAVE TO WANT TO GET BETTER BAD ENOUGH TO TAKE A CHANCE. I HAD NO CHOICE. WE HAD AN ICE STORM AND I LOST POWER. I WENT TO MY MOM'S [HAD A PANIC ATTACK THRIR ON THANKSGIVING] AND THEN WE WENT TO MY SISTERS CAUSE SHE HAD POWER. NOW I HAVE NO MORE ANXIETY BUT HAD TO DISTRACRT MYSELF AND DO POSITVE SELF TALK AT MY MOMS AND SISTERS. IT WENT AWAY ON ITS OWN. PRAISE GOD. BUT I HAD TO DO WORK AT MY MOMS AND SISTERS.

I go back to the tape on anticipation a lot. I found that is where I tend to falter in my application of this program. I used to get hung up about stuff in the past but I learned to overcome that. Using the flash cards before bed time or in the morning before brushing the teeth seem to help a lot. The cards contain affirmations I try to repeat time and again. I must admit that I am doing a whole lot better than a month ago. I suggest you try that.

Of course you can beat it.

So long as you don't secretly make friends with your anxiety and panic attacks thinking it's keeping you safe then you can always beat it.

Oh and one more tip. Replace the "what if" with "So What". Have a bit of attitude for a change.

Hmmm. Have an attitude. I like that-- From reading your posts, I know that I am a sensitive soul. But SO WHAT? I like me.

Thanks for the shake up.
