afraid my DR/DP is a brain condition
I am so worried that my derealization/depersonalization is some kind of a brain condition. I v been having it off and on for a month and the past few days basically on. As some of u may know I started taking Pristiq (anti-depressant) a month and a week ago (could the DR/DP be because of the anti-depressant??) Im sooo worried. I mean the medication has helped with my depression but why am i getting DR/DP now??? I also have PMDD(severe PMS) and i am 2 days away from my period and started taking YAZ 2 months ago. . I dont think YAZ works at all for my pmdd. In fact i feel it may be making it worse? . . But iv only been on it for 2 months and maybe should give it more of a chance? I know anti-depressants are supposed to help for PMDD too but iv only been on them for a month and week so this is not enough time , right? well i read on DR/DP and it says it could be because of some part of your brain and its a disorder. . Im so worried. I just want to stop feeling like im high all the time. I thought i overcome this but now its back. I am thinking this could be the anti depressants? Or do you think its just me? My Psych app is not till Nov 10th. . I dont know why this is happening but i want it to go away!! !!

Hi Holly,
When I first started lexapro I had the same thing happen to me,it did get better after a few months, I always felt like I was in slow motion, I would stear into space alot,it also made me feel I was outside my body looking in, I dont no if that makes any sence. These types of anti- depressents do change the brain chemistry. I have been off lexapro for about 7 months and I had the same reaction coming off of it as well. I still have it once in a while, but this was one symptom I never had before I went on lexapro.
I also have bad PMS never had it until I turned 40. I am now 42 and I am not sure if I am starting pre-menapause or not. It makes my anxiety off the chart. I started a journel every month and write down my symptoms, so I can look back and see the pattern.
I hope this helps.
Debbie

Thanks Debbie. So after a few months it went away??? I am just so scared this will stay forever. I'm kinda freaking out about this. It's making me depressed again which I hate!! And what you said makes a lot of sense. I don't want to get off my meds cause i know i need them but i dont want them to always make me feel this way!!!
Hi Holly,
Yes after a few months it did go away. It only came back again when I started to come off the med. I do belive it was because my brain was readjusting to not having the meds. I remember my doctor said it would take a good 6-8 weeks before my body would gets accustome to the meds. He was right. I do hate DP/DR it is very scary, but I did learn the more attition I gave it the longer it would last.
Take care
