Weak & shaky spells

Does anyone else have this?

Whenever I'm stressed or anxious I seem to have this problem pretty often. I will all of a sudden have a strange feeling in my stomach, a lot of times like I'm hungry and then I feel weak and shaky. Most of the time it can be relieved shortly after I eat. Sometimes it happens not long after I eat and eating doesn't seem to help it. I have been told by my dr. that I don't have low blood sugar but these spells are scary to me. And now that I am really anxious they are happening more often.

It's a really uncomfortable, nervous, weak & shaky feeling.

If you're not eating due to anxiety/stress, that's probably why you're feeling weak and shaky; it explains why you feel a lot better after you've eaten. Lack of food/sugar/glucose in our bodies leads to symptoms of light-headedness, nausea/vomiting, and the weakness and tremors/shakiness you mentioned.

I know it's been said before, but just try eating small meals throughout the day. If you feel the weakness and/or shakiness, drink some juice to get some sugar into your system. Most of all, if your doctor has said you're okay, just remember it's nothing more than a natural body response.

Thank you.... I'm actually eating very good and very often. And...I just had one of these spells earlier and I had eaten a pack of crackers about 15 minutes before it started. Most of the time it is relieved by eating but not always. I'm trying to eat every couple of hours right now to keep these spells to a minimum. My body is out of whack!!!

It sounds like you maybe Hypoglycemic like myself. Next time it happens, try a spoonful of peanut butter and some orange juice. If it goes away in about 15 minutes your sugar is out of whack. Your doctor can take a simple blood test and help you.

I have these all the time everyday of my life. I have decided to start ignoring them and they have been going away quicker. Mine is all anxiety related. I am constently dizzy as well. My muscle are extremely tense which makes me off balance. I get the shaky feeling mostly in my legs and then I feel extremely weak. I know exactly what you are talking about. I do it everyday. It is all anxiety trust me. I have been checked out from head to toe. My Doc has told me there is nothing else left to check.

I'm sorry that you have this but thank you for letting me know that I am not alone. When I asked the dr. he said my blood sugar was fine and that was all he did. So...I felt like it would be pointless to go back. I'll ask him again the next time I'm there I guess. He'll ignore it. Anyway...I really felt like this is probably due to raised adrenline/corisol in my body from anxiety but then there is always the "what if" factor.

Oh and thank you Steven. That usually does help me. However, it didn't seem to do anything today. And...now that I have reflux I'm banned from having OJ (or anything else good!) :)

Susie,
The brain is able to function on only two energy sources-oxygen and glucose. Diminish either and you have shakes, disorientation, nausea and a myriad of symptoms individual to each person. The stomach releases some enzymes which cause hunger but these quicky combine with other substances to diminish hunger and begin the production of acids.
In the long run, the lining of the stomach is eaten away if this is allowed to persist.
Small, frequent meals, low acid juices and a slightly bland diet with carbs eaten before proteins all go a long way to help.

Hello!I know exactly how you feel!In fact I went through this so bad about 2 years ago that I literally gained 20 pounds real fast!I was freaking out on this so bad because I've always been pretty thin.In fact I used to be anorexic in my early twenties.I'm now glad to say that I've lost about 15 of those 20 pounds.Anyway I tell myself you eat 3 meals a day and a healthy snack you are fine.I started letting go of my comfort foods.I still have these feelings like you described but not nearly as often.I can really start to see how alot of it was in my mind.Believe me I drove my Dr.'s office nuts!I still have a hard time believing that it's not my sugar but how could it be if I'm not skipping meals?Anxiety can play some weird tricks on our minds.I'll get dizzy for a few seconds or feel off balanced too.This is making my agoraphobia take hold of me.I also started letting myself relax more and I started eating a lot of chicken,protein.It helps a lot!My comfort foods were all carbs.I was once told that people with anxiety experience everything twice as intense.My hunger was so bad that I felt like I had not eaten in days!I know this is an awful symptom to go through but it will get better.If you want to talk more PM me.I really can relate to this.God Bless!!!

ive had the same problem. part of it is anxiety and the other part is just your body i think. or at least thats how it is for me. i think i just tend to feel my blood sugar if it drops or whatever. i just try to eat balanced which really helps. when i first had this a few years ago i too was eating too many white flour carbs cause i felt sick so i thought thats what you eat. but it really made me feel worse. you have to try to have more whole grains and balance out protein with a carb at meals. also trying to have little snacks between meals helps too. like peanut butter or cheese is good so you dont let the hunger get too far. i too thought i was the only one with this problem and doctors dont know anything about it. i do find that being anxious makes the shaky feeling worse.
