Benefits of meditation

Just wanted to share my experiences with meditation. I've struggled with anxiety and depression for as long as I can remember, and the only thing that really seems to consistently help is meditating for 20 or so minutes every day. I just lie down and make an effort to quiet my mind. If I have any thoughts (and I always do), I just notice them and let them pass. It takes about 2 weeks of meditating for me to notice any noticeable improvement, but it does help. Hope this helps some of you.

I normally do not listen to music, but sometimes I do have new age music in the background - it all depends on the mood I'm in. I do not stretch before, but I do start out with several deep breaths. Do whatever seems best for you. The whole point is to let go and IMO, there is no "right" way to meditate. Experiment and see what works best for you.

I'm no expert on meditation, but a simple way to start out is to find a time when you will not be disturbed, lie down or sit on a chair, and close your eyes and just notice your thoughts. In my experience if you try to force yourself to clear your mind, it will not work. Even if you do this for 5 minutes, it's a good start.
