calmchange,
Well, first and foremost, congratulations on getting pregnant!
I was just listening to Session 8's tape and one of the women talked about how she had a really bad experience and that night she couldn't sleep. After that night she had trouble sleeping every night because she kept thinking "What if I can never sleep again" Those what if's can be self-fulfilling prophecies if we aren't careful. Meaning, just by thinking them we can make them true. Lucinda made a really good point though, your body will sleep when it needs to. Maybe instead of lying there thinking about how you can't sleep and focusing on your other anxious feelings, you can get up and read a book, watch a TV program, or do some meditation and stretching.
Do you listen to the relaxation tape before bed? I've found that as long as I listen to it and follow the tension/relaxtion techniques I'm out before I even make it to the waterfall.
Also, keep reminding yourself that you've overcome this before. It's not a disease or an illness, it is a condition that is progressed by negative thinking habits. Like missgsr said, everytime you have a negative thought, stop yourself and reword that thought into a positive one.
For example:
Negative thought "I'm feeling anxious and because I'm pregnant I'm going to slip back into my negative anxious self."
Postive thought "Of course I'm nervous, this is the first time I've been pregnant since overcoming my anxiety. It is natural and normal to have some anxious thoughts. I will give myself permission to feel nervous sometimes, but I will also use the skills I learned from Attacking Anxiety & Depression to help myself not dwell on these nervous feelings."
You can do it! And keep checking in with us so we can help be supportive throughout your pregnacy.
