panic attacks while driving
Hi:),
Well, only you know for sure your exact circumstances but my guess is that when you are driving to work you are anticipating your day and that is more stressful than being finished and coming home. You may not like your job, or someone at your job, etc., or there is just something you have to do during your day you don't want to do, etc. When you're coming home, your day is over. You are heading home:) to where you don't have to deal with whatever is at work that's causing you anxiety.
Right now, I am a non-driver, so please don't beat yourself up for having to pull over a couple of times to get there. You're doing amazing still. As you go further along in this program, there will be a session on how panic attacks can be a distraction from something you really have trouble facing like conflict at your work or not liking your job, etc.
Hope something in here helps, but it does sound like there's a reason. You may even love your job, but maybe you are a perfectionist who feels that you have to do the job perfectly and that could be causing you stress while thinking about that on the way to work. So, there are many possibilities and only you can really know for sure, but maybe this gives you something to think about to help you.
Take Care,

I completely understand. You don't want to pull over but you feel as though you can't drive another second. Driving is where I get the most anxious. Sometimes before I leave i get in the car and close my eyes and take deep breaths and focus on the drive. I am only able to drive to work and sometimes school.. for me I feel if i pull over I won't be able to get it together to keep driving again..be proud of yourself that your able to take a moment and continue driving.
Personally I have only had a few anxious moments driving and I have never had to pull over.
Actually when I can get in the car (alone) and drive with the tunes going and nothing to do but drive, I tend to feel more at ease.
I think they are right, I think subconsiously you must be thinking of your day.
I know that when I acknowledge to myself that I am having a good day, I instantly begin to antcipate the next attack.
