I called in sick to work on Friday (first day back to work after the holidays). The whole family is sick. I felt guilty calling in. Now it's the end of the weekend and the knots in my stomach are really building up. I'm scared to go in to work tomorrow. The thought of it makes my head start to spin.

Hi manofmusic, it sounds like stress and tension building up. The first place it hits me is in the stomach area. It is probably the holiday season, the family sicknesses and then just the thought of going back to work again. You are getting the "what ifs". For example, "What if these knots get so bad I have to leave and come home?" I would bet it won't happen, but you are probably thinking that it will, and then what, you are telling yourself.

Do you have a relaxation tape you could listen to a few times? I think that would help you enormously. And also try deep breathing. There are exercises we can do to breathe in and out properly. I tend to be a "shallow breather" myself. Short breaths are the worst, try some nice, deep breaths in and out counting to five each time. Let us know how you are doing. Good luck and you will be fine! Bob.

Hey Flyer

I'm on week 12 now and it's the week that's all about change. The line of work I'm in is slowly leaving the city I'm in. The bosses at work are real uptight. They don't think before they speak. The workers like me are on the receiving end of it all. I think that it has to do with the inevitability of change. I believe that's what's scaring me out of my mind. I have the relaxation tape and I listen to it, but about 10 minutes or so later, I'm all wound up again. I was doing well and made great strides from week 1 to week 11, but it's this one that's hitting home.
