I have a problem when I get bloated that makes me very uncomfortable and frustrated. I feel like my breathing gets all out of sync. While trying to do anything it's like I have to do it in rhythm with my breathing pattern. I notice this most when I am very bloated and after eating spicy foods. I also notice a tenderness and soreness around the upper part of my abdomen just under my chest on both sides. The only other way I can describe this is its a feeling like I need to burp but can't. I hate when this starts up. I do have IBS and assume this has something to do with that. Has anyone else had this sort of problem with their breathing and if so can you tell me how you deal with it. Thanks for any help, I truly appreciate all the advice and info I have already gotten through the forum.

God bless,
Susan

I have the same problem also. It makes me feel as though I am not getting enough air. I just recently cut out refined carbs and milk, I still eat yogurt and Ive found that the bloating is getting better. When I was able to burp I would feel some temporary relief until the pressure would build back up. I found that walking around or rocking back and forth helped also. I honestly think the breathing problem is because of being bloated and having excess air. I hope this helps.

I have the same problem. I feel like I have a bowling ball in my stomach, it feels so bloated. Right now I'm experiencing it. And it feels like it's pushing up on my diaphragm to where I'm short of breath. Like I have to concentrate on each inhalation and exhalation. And kind of like I'm breathing through a wet sponge at times. I've made myself burp too and it briefly alleviates some of the tightness but it comes almost immediately back. My Doctor said something, and I'm not going to get this verbatim, but if we're not breathing in a relaxed manner that we can actually suck air down into our stomachs causing this full feeling. I'm hoping with doing this program and all of the exercises and breathing that I will get relaxed enough and confident enough that my breathing will relax and regulate itself. I feel like my chest wall and rib cage are always tight as well.
Remember, an Eagle never has the same air under its wings.

I have that problem and am so glad I came across this. I do not have IBS but I notice after I eat that I feel like I cannot breathe and this then makes me focus on my heart rate and then I get kind of panicky like I am not breathing or my heartbeat is really off beat. So glad you asked this question-makes me not feel so alone! ANGEL

Too about the needing to burp-I feel like I need to do that to relieve the pressure and sometimes I can and sometimes I can't. Sometimes I just kind of move my body around to see if I can get some air to release so I can burp-it's feels like air trapped in your chest. ANGEL

Hi all,
I do have IBS and have for years, but the bloating you might feel is because those of us with panic disorder who stay at a higher level of anxiety create conditions in our GI systems that cause bloating, food to not leave the stomach timely, shortness of breath and pressure on the diaphragm.

My condition got so bad that besides not feeling like I could breath properly I also had heart palpitation with the bloating. My doctor has me taking reglan for now (moves food out of the stomach). This seems to be helping.

Thank you all for your replies. Just knowing that I am not alone with this problem is very calming to me. I don't know which is worse the feeling I get before I eat (if I have waited to long to eat) or the bloatiness afterwards that cause all the symptoms described up above. I have to say though since cutting way back on my caffeine I am noticing a big difference in my anxiety. I haven't had the really bad panic episodes (praise God thank you Jesus!) in almost 2 weeks. I know for sure the caffeine is a trigger for me as I can go without my tea or pepsi for several days and by the end of the 2nd or beginning of the 3rd day I am much more relaxed and calm but after drinking just one pepsi or one glass of tea with an hour I notice the anxiety creeping back in. I am trying to work on my eating patterns now. I am hyperglycemic where the sugar levels drop if I haven't eat for awhile and when I am past due to eat something I get very light headed and sometimes even disoriented which will usually always lead me to a big panic attack. Once I eat I calm right down. My Dad is also this way only he doesn't panic he just finds something to eat and goes on. I wished I was the laid back easy going positive person my Dad is. My Mom, God rest her soul, was totally the opposite. Guess who I take after. :( With the way I have been eating even though its small portions several times a day I am gaining weight instead of losing it. I want to lose 35 to 45 pounds so bad. If anyone has any tips on that please let me know.

Anyway thank you all so much for taking the time to read my post and for replying. This site and all the members have been such a huge blessing for me.

God bless,
Susan
