Does anyone else have a problem getting a massage? I LOVE them but have a hard time relaxing till they are half over. I do better if I see the the therapist I've seen before, such as at the chiropractor. Actually she's the one who told me about this program. Anyhow yesterday I got a hot stone massage for the first time and highly recommend it but couldn't relax for the first 15-25 minutes. The same thing is true for any other "treating myself" type activities, hair, nails, waxes. And if I have to wait past my appt. time it's much worse. I'm working on anticipatory anxiety this week and I'm sure thats some of it but my what if thoughts are so embedded and almost subconcious anymore.

BTW, I did really well yesterday not only did I survive the massage I even went to a restaurant and ate some and it was really loud and crowded there since my bil's band was playing. But today I'm not doing great because I have to work on a new project this afternoon in an area of the plant I don't know well and it's 2 floors from my desk and where I know a bathroom is!! Trying to convince myself I'll be fine....

Heather- glad to hear you made it thru the massage! I loooooove massages, but I also don't relax for the first 10-15 mins. I actually once had a masseuse tell me to relax or he couldn't finish because if I tensed my muscles it would hurt!

I found the same thing is true when listening to Lucinda's relaxation tape, it isn't until the muscle relaxation part that I realize I'm even tense in some areas, but once i'm aware of it and truly relax I enjoy it so much more -I'm even prone to fall asleep at the end because I'm so calm!

I'm hyper concerned w/ bathrooms too - just know that if you have to go, you can just walk to the nearest bathroom, there's probably one close by and I'm sure the people on that floor know where it is. And if you feel anxious- remember to breathe! It helps! You'll do just fine though! :)

Heather -

What's in the bathroom? Massage, dentist, airplane, elevator, doesnt matter really what the subject is, where the second floor is and far from your desk. Start accepting that you are in control by not being in control and just let that sink in for a moment. Negetive thinking, thinking that something bad is going to happen is conditioning. You admitted the anticipatory anxiety is controlling you, only way through that is to go up to the second floor again and again and again. What's on the second floor? Its like this, your telling your self that maybe on the second floor i will be successful, maybe i will fail, maybe people wont like me up there whatever, however you slice it, it's anything but who you are. Obviously from your littl picture of the cat you enjoy nice soft things, to relax and just mellow out. It is of no use to any of us, your employeer's expectation for you to perform, mine as well to bring this condition into the office place. You are a professional, you are a strong person. Negetive thinking, low self esteem is controlling you. Ask yourself what exactly it is, i mean exactly, that your not willing to surrender to and be able to perform a top peak level regardless of the circumstances. With positive thoughts, self assurance, consentrating on more rewards instead of more punishment is where its at. Postive feelings and social interaction is the answer. Self defeating is only keeping you from facing your fears. There is nothing to fear, we are in a safe country with food on our tables, roof over our heads, pretty cars to drive. We have it made. You can do anything you put your mind to and I encourage you to start believing that. Yeahoooo!
