I agree with BNA. I just started immunotherapy for allergies I didn't even know I had. Turns out over the last few years I was blaming my swallowing problems on anxiety. It felt like my food would just sit in my throat. I quit eating meat because I was scared I was going to choke. It was actually caused by a post nasal drip that made my throat bumpy instead of smooth and that is why the food would stick. Now i take zyrtec and my throat is healing. I ate a pork chop for the first time in 4 years. Yeah! I would definately check with an ENT. They can do a skin test and you may be amazed at what you might be allergic too. Good Luck!

Hi, folks,

I've been to both an ENT and an allergist. Scratch tests for the most common allergies revealed only four mild reactions. I suspect that what really bothers me is artificial chemicals, and I try to avoid them. I'll ask my allergist about vasomotor rhinitis when I see her again.

Diet Coke, I must confess, is still a stumbling block. I'm making my umpteen to the nth effort to at least cut way back on them. I tell myself that 1) if I'm so concerned about chemical exposures, the obvious place to start is with what I put into my mouth, and 2) I can use the money saved to buy soap-making ingreidents (which can get expensive).

Sure, I have to take precautions with the lye, such as mixing it outdoors; and it's hot work. But the results are worth it. I'm so spoiled by home-made soap that I don't want commercially available soaps any more.

Hi, everyone,

Last Friday I had a follow-up with my allergist. She doesn't think I have vasomotor rhinitis, and in fact she said my sinuses looked better.

Friday and yesterday, That Person wasn't at work. To be honest, it was WONDERFUL :)to have two days at work w/o having to smell that horrible stuff she puts on herself. (I heard tell that she says she uses body oils). No, I'm not saying I'm glad if she was sick. It's just a relief to not have those fumes.

My supervisor actually is very sympathetic, but can't do much to help the situation. :( I've begun to think about devices to blow the tainted air away from me. I hope they're quiet things, or their operational sounds would drive me crazy.
