support from family/friends
I just recently started this program and decided to share this with people I am close to. Out of the people I told about the program I am taking, one person has offered me support if I need. I shared this by email with family & some friends and no one has replied to me nor does anyone seem to care. It doesn't really surprise me, I rarely get the support I need but so many come to me for support when they need it. So many people see me as strong, especially in my extended family. I even shared this with the pastor from our church and no response, I just don't get it...when someone is making steps to better their life why people don't show support or take an interest in it. My husband supports what I am doing and for that I am very thankful. I guess what I find hard about this is that I'm excited about this program and the changes that are and will be taking place in my life for the better, why can't others be happy for me? Am I expecting too much to want others to want what's best for me? Are my expectations to high wanting some support from family & friends...even just for them to acknowledge me & the efforts I am making to help myself & from there be able to better help others? I haven't pushed this program on anyone else, only shared in what I am doing. Has anyone else been experiencing this kind of thing?
Let nothing that has happened today or before discourage you about tomorrow
Hi ljanz,
I am sorry that you feel that you aren't being supported. I believe most people don't understand what it is your telling them or they see themselves as poorly equipped to help you or worst still are in denial that there could be a problem.
As for your pastor, by confessing this to him or her, rather than seeing your need, they may feel or project that they have failed you along the way; otherwise you would not have needed to seek out help elsewhere. Moreover, they don't understand why you didn't come to them first. They perceive it as a sign of some short coming on their part.
In truth, there is a short coming on their part, but I will steer away from this, but it will be evident to you over time. Spiritual counseling is a specialize field, and not all ministers are fully prepared to be of help in these areas. I could point you to a few good reads about this subject, and you will see that even those that hold themselves out as effective in these areas, are not exactly properly trained. So I am not being hard on your pastor, and you shouldn't either.
I believe the program, if read, practiced and applied, can and will help people, get to a point that they will see what the answer to their problem to the source of many of the disorders many people suffer.
Personally, I believe it is a spiritual warfare and perhaps if you discussed with your pastor in this light, they might get a better handle on the approach they may take to help you.
This type requires much prayer and fasting (Mat. 17:21, Mark 9:29). If you are a born again Christian, you must believe that it is impossible for a demon to inhabit a spirit filled born again Christian. However, everyone is susceptible to demonic influences. They come to us via negative thinking or thoughts that creep into our thinking due to:

idleness,

trauma,

tragic physical or mental stresses or events.

Among other things

I would say relax, and I am sure that others will chime in to help encourage you, if you learn about some of the things that helped me and continue to do so, I would be glad to share.
I gave a brief account of my victory and recovery over long term depression and other maladies, and you can find it in the triumphs forum topics.
In the meantime, I congratulate you for recognizing there is a problem and for wanting to do something about it. God bless you!

Hi Gman9259,
Thank you so much for your reply, I agree with what you are saying concerning my pastor. You see I did get counselling a few years back and it helped me a lot, which my pastor suggested and my family doctor, not only for myself but for my marriage. Just recently my pastor suggested that maybe I could help others, whether it be in my family or other people I come across and that's why I'm a bit disappointed that he hasn't shown any interest in what I am now doing to better equip myself. I also spend time in the word daily, my relationship with God means everything to me, I wouldn't be where I am today without God in my life. I also read a lot of Christian self help books, I have learned so much and have grown in my relationship with God.
I also agree with what you are saying in regards to spiritual warfare, if they enemy can get us down & keep us down we won't be effective in advancing the kingdom, that's why we do have a fight on our hands, prayer is an awesome tool we have and is very effective. I am believing for healing for my whole body, I have Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and live with a lot of pain in my muscles & joints, that is a challenge in and of itself. I have also had a fair bit of trauma in my life which I have learned can bring about physical symptoms in one's physical body.
I know I'm on the right track & I also know God lead me to this program for a reason...God works through people does he not? I heard about this program while watching TV and when I heard Lucinda say that she had told God if he helped her, she would spend her life helping others, that's what caught my interest and that's when I decided to check into this program.
If there is anything helpful you would like to share with me please feel free to do so. I will read up in the forum about your victory. Keep on keeping on!
God Bless!

Hi ljanz,
I have sent you a private message. If you notice on the top of any thread there will be a light bulb indicating you have a message. Or you can go that little tool bar and click on "go," select personal zone, and then private messaging. That will take you to your own personal in box and you will see new messages there or you can create a private message to any member that is not blocking private messages, by simply finding one of their postings and view their public profile or invite them to a private message, by sending them a message.
If you already knew this, I apologize.
I hope you enjoy my message to you.
