I work in a daycare, and was notified today that one of the children has the swine flu. Ever since hearing the news my anxiety has been acting up.

I cannot help but feel as it is almost inevitable to get this flu now, as illness passes quickly in daycare, and with constant exposure to the flu for what will most likely be a long stretch of time, the chances of getting it myself are high. I continue to wash my hands constantly(and everything else in the room), but it does not feel as if it will be enough to keep from getting ill.

Does anyone have any words of encouragement to help keep me calm?

Orion -

From everything I've heard, the swine flu isn't any more dangerous than the typical flu we get every year. So take heart; even if you do pick it up, it probably won't be that bad. Besides, if you work in a daycare, you must have an immune system of steel! Just keep doing what you're already doing to minimize the chances and stop worrying. Worrying won't help any and just makes you feel bad.

Take care,
Jamie

That's weird that they are saying that the child has swine flu. They (an interview with a investigative reporter at CBS) said they are not even testing to see if indeed people have the swine flu!! In this interview, this reporter (I forget her name)said that most of the people didn't even have the seasonal flu let alone this swine flu. But if you go in with certain symptoms, they are assuming and saying you have swine flu!!

I wish you could listen to this interview. maybe you could go on CBS's website...I heard it on Mercola.com (you have to subscribe to hear it I think).

Relax anyway's and make sure you get plenty of rest, fresh air and exercise...you'll be fine.

Hi :) :) :)
The "swine flu" has definitely become an epidemic in our small community!!!

I would say at least 70% of the people around here have already had it, and it is still going strong!!!

You usually run a fever of around 104 the first two to three days, then, the fever breaks and you are just fine!!!

Everyone who have been diagnosed in our county have definitely had it, since, they have been sent to the major hospitals in Lexington, KY to get second opinions!!!

I must say that my family physician did tell me that this is not nearly as bad as the regular flu!!!

My cousin's two children had it and are perfectly healthy, now...My best friends two boys caught it and both of them are just fine...They were ages 3 and 5...

It is highly contagious, but, it really is not nearly as dangerous as most people think!!!

In fact, my family physician told me that many more people die yearly of the regular flu, and honestly, there has not been that many deaths from the swine flu...

So, from what I have seen with my own eyes in our community is that anyone who is overly concerned about getting the "swine flu" are scaring their own selves needlessly, since, I have not heard of even one death from it around here!!!

In fact, all of the children and adults that I know have gotten over it pretty fast!!!

I am sure no one wants to be sick with a fever and I am sure one feels terrible with all of these symptoms, but, I honestly do not feel that it is nearly as dangerous as a lot of other viruses out there!!!

I pray that this helps alleviate some of your fears!!! Have a beautiful "Thanksgiving Day"....
