Anyone else here been diagnosed with PSVT's or Paroxysmal Supraventricular Tachycardia?? I was diagnosed with PAC's or Premature Atrila Contractions about 6 years ago, and I cut out all caffiene(even chocolate). I also take magnesium every day. Some days they are better than others, but the doctor told me they are harmless and not to worry. This morning I was awaken to extreme fast "palpatations" so I called my cardio doc and they told me it was PSVT's. THey said if it continues I will need to take a beta-blocker to help prevent them, but I would have to stay on the meds and not to stop them because my symptoms would get worse. I don't want to take the meds, especially if I will have to take them the rest of my life. The name of the meds are Propanolol. Anyone else take those meds?? Just looking for some feedback on this. Thanks everyone and God bless.

Dolphinlover, I have atrial fib and not sure it's the same that you described but you might want to google to find out problems that could result from the condition if not treated. I take meds for it and it's been under control for several years and I have regular lab tests to keep track of the meds. You might want to be careful about your decision and give serious consideration to possible complications if meds are not taken. I have no idea if there are any problems at all but would find out all I could before deciding. I'm aware of what could happen in my situation and have opted to go the route of meds but you may find something totally different.

Hi-

I am a registered pharmacist-- I worked before my children were born.

Propranolol or Inderal is a beta-blocker. It's job is to reduce the heart rate and pounding-ness. It does that by blocking some of the beta receptors in the heart and other organs-- so the effect of those receptors being stimulated is blocked or blunted. It's like jamming gum into a keyhole. The key won't fit in and thus you can't use the lock. It's used as a first or second choice drug for high blood pressure, and for stage fright symptoms and obviously more things that your doctor is aware of. It's an OLD drug and has been taken by many many people for a long time. I understand about not wanting to be on meds and the what ifs that accompany that. Make a list of pros and cons and weigh out for yourself what is the wise adult decision here. Talk to a pharmacist that you feel comfortable with and have him/her tell you about the drug. Call several until you find one who is sympathetic and kind and understanding. They are out there. Knowledge is power-- Just like we have learned in the StressCenter.com stuff.
