Maybe weeks ago, or more than a month ago, when my anxiety was stronger, I had noticed my heart beating irregular, and some skipped beats. Then it had seemed to go away, I hadn't noticed them for the past few weeks, or month. Anyway, I have started to notice within the past few days that my heart has been doing the same thing, some skipped heart beats, so it sounds like. Does this mean that I could have that prolapse mitral valve thing? Should I be concerned, or should I tell this to my doctor? I think maybe I had mentioned before to him, but he didn't seem too concerned about it, but I don't really remember. How do you know if you have that, or if you should be concerned?

Dear Brandi,
I thought that I had that for years...My heart did the exact same things, and I had panic and anxiety attacks.
Everyone that I know who has panic and anxiety attacks also have the skipped heart beats....
That began 21 years ago, and only ended 6 years ago, when I got my anxiety under control...
I was never checked for mitral heart prolapse, but, my daughter does have it...
They found hers through an ultrasound. A heart enzyme was out of range, so, they did the ultrasound and found it...
It is mild, and she has never needed medication for it...
I am sure you will be absolutely fine...I think you just have an anxiety disorder, and that all your worries about the heart thing are irrational...
I pray you have a great night...God Bless

Thx Ms. T Bones, I am on session 8 now, and have been feeling alot better, but since the skipped heart beats have presented itself once again, I felt like maybe I'm not getting better, or I'm goin back to how I used to feel. I will soo try not to focus on it so much. It has came and went away before, I think because I learned not to think about it, so I'll try to be more focused on more positive things, and not about my healthy beating heart!
Hi Brandi,
I actually do have mitral valve prolapse and I do take medication for it, but it's really no big deal. Even if you do have it, no worries. My life hasn't changed much with it.
I think arythmia is a bit worse, but I doubt you have that.
But if you're so concerned go to a different doctor to get a second opinion. That's what I did and it helped so much. Now I know where I stand. They ran a bunch of tests and I know I have nothing to fear. Go for it.

I too had and continue to have this. It can be a matter of a few skipped beats or hours of a jumpy chest. It is caused by the Vagus nerve. There hasn't been much talk of this in modern medicine. The nerve is stimulated by stress, diet (mostly sugar) and a number of other factors. None harmful of course. The best way to work through it is deep breathing. A five count inhaling and 5 count exhaling. That in itself will calm the nerve and regulate the heart. Just know for your own peace of mind that what your experiencing is common and not a life threatening issue.

Thx alot for the comments guys. However, I think that Shifrah, may have had a point. I had noticed it maybe a few days before my period started, and it did it off and on while I was on my period. Now that it is over, I hadn't noticed the skipped beats anymore. So maybe it has a little to do with my monthly? I don't know, maybe it will just come and go, or just not come back at all!!! Anyway thx to all of you and Good Luck!!!
Almost forgot! I also noticed it after I had drank a 20oz bottle of pepsi, and before that I hadn't had any pop in monthes! So maybe my body had gotten used to not having any caffiene in it, and after I had the pepsi, my heart started palpitating. Who knows, I don't think I have prolapsed mitral valve, I think it's just ANXIETY!!!
I had an idea it could be that since you wrote it stopped for a few weeks to a month and then started back up again.
The anxiety could be telling you it's xx (self-diagnosis) when it's actually a symptom of PMS.
Sometimes I feel like I'm coming down with something a couple days before it starts, other times I get a gnarly headache, depending on my level of health at the time (how well I take care of myself) but if I'm not paying attention to the date I freak out about feeling under the weather and start diagnosing myself in fear!
