For a while I have thought about breaking up with my boyfriend. I did move out last month and got my own apartment. I love it and feel better about being on my own. The only thing is I have felt my anxiety getting worse. I have lived with it for about 4 1/2 years and have learned to control it pretty well. All the things that I have overcome are coming screaming back to me. Driving, going to work, going to school its all difficult. The weird thing is that I do not regret my decision to move out. I am actually pretty happy, so why is this happening?
I think that the reason that your anxiety is coming back to you is because even though you are happy to be moved out, it is also stress underlying. Things can affect you without you knowing it and so just try to do the breathing exercises and everything and tell yourself that it is just the anxiety. You are a very strong person if you have dealt with anxiety for 4 1/2 years so this big step of being on your own is little for you! You can get over these feelings you just have to work on them. Best of luck!
Hi Anna, your anxiety is probably increasing because of the new living situation. You said you are happy, maybe you are having an adrenelin rush of excitement. Sometimes we confuse the feelings of excitement with the feelings of anxiety. Going through the program you already know that your anxiety will not hurt you.
I would try to look at these feelings as excitement, not fear, and see if you start to feel better too.
Good Luck
