I just listened to session 3 for the first time. everything was going fine, but then they bring in the lady who had a heart attack because of her stress and anxiety. ok, so i know that stress can lead to heart attacks, but as an anxiety sufferer, this only makes me more stressed and anxious to hear about. i'm just so confused as to why they would tell us that knowing that we're going to worry about that too. all i keep thinking is well how do i know the difference between an anxiety attack that feels like i'm having a heart attack, and a real heart attack? i thought this program was supposed to calm you down and bring you peace, not give you more to worry about. someone, please help!
I agree with you. That wasn't one of my phobias so I was able to let it go. I truly believe that her case is a very rare one. I've been around a long time and have suffered with the pounding heart for decades - I've never had a heart attack. I am around people who are phobic on a regular basis. They have never had heart attacks. Actually, I've read where anxiety can make the heart stronger. It just depends on who the author is of what you are reading. I also believe that a lot of it has to do with what we inherit.
But your best bet to calm yourself down is to remind yourself that "No matter what happens. I'll handle it." Ask yourself if it is happening right now. The answer, of course, is no. It's not. "Well, if it should happen. I will handle it."
Use your calm breath to slow your heart down. Breathe in. Hold for 4 and exhale through pursed lips slowly. Also, remind yourself that this adrenalin will not hurt you.
I personally do not feel that this person had a heart attack because of panic attack disorder.

I agree with both of you. Right now I am on session 3 and when I heard that woman's testimony it completely triggered off an anxiety/panic attack. I asked myself, "Why would they put that in there"? Reality clicked in and no one is perfect...
So now I just fast forward the group session part of that segment. I was almost ready to return the program. I also have heard that anxiety even when pregnant is good, especially if you don't work out. Adrenaline comes with stress and excitement!! Do you remember the last time you were so excited your heart raced? Think about it......even in personal ways.....
Keep deep breathing that does send a signal to your body to calm down...even when its a good adrenaline. From what I had heard and known from people who had suffered heart attacks and are still alive......One would know the difference due to the excruciating pain that forces one to drop down to their knees and call out to God. Thats not us....My cardiologist says my heart is that of an athlete.......and I'm not one.....
Stay focused on the positive and for some good inspiration look at the spiritual forums here....there great!!!

I was also scared by that lady but I think the people in the group sessions have all been thru a lot of different situations, eg the woman who
was stressing over having a baby, and the man who was to become a minister;
I don't think she meant to scare us but just share their stories with us.
It is a medical fact that prolonged stress can lead to heart attacks. The adrenaline substances that get pumped into our bodies during a stressful period is very damaging indeed.

Lucinda is not here to protect us, so to speak, but to confront us with the truth in a loving and supportive manner. You'll notice on other tapes how she and Dr. Fisher both say that no one has ever died of a panic attack. However, having all that excess adrenaline built up over time in your system can LEAD TO heart problems such as that of the woman in session 3.
Keep at the program - it's really worth it and the positives far outweight the negatives in the sessions!
Best,
Dawn

I'd like to share something with you. Do not avoid listening to that tape. (No, the adrenaline will not hurt you.) Avoidance to anything is the problem. You get to keep your fear another day when you avoid. Listen to that tape over and over and over and over again until you no longer react to it. Breathe into those uncomfortable feelings (and Ermie, I mean you, too). Use your tools. Life is not about comfort. It never has been. Life is about living and sometimes we are triggered by what we read, hear and see because we are so sensitive. That's OK. Learn to live with that by desensitizing. It's in the program. Again, breathe into those feelings. Use your calm breath to calm you down. Breathe in. Hold for 4. Breathe out slowly through pursed lips.
Change your scary thoughts to soothing thoughts. How would you talk to a small child who was going through this? That's how you talk to yourself. Soothe, soothe, soothe. It's perfectly OK to feel scared. Stop the resistance to how you are feeling and welcome these feelings instead. Use your tools to guide you through.
If you are afraid to feel adrenalin, how do you expect to heal? Adrenalin will not hurt you and stop telling yourself that it will. That's a lie we have all been living with for way too long.
It's more than a lot of adrenalin that causes heart attacks.

I haven't listened to it, yet, but on CD 2 I can't stop thinking about what the doctor said regarding stress and anxiety causing all sorts of health problems, including cancer.
I have to believe there is a reason for this. It's obviously the exception and not the rule but part of the anxiety is not thinking logical (for me). I will force myself to listen to it, though.....I'm 99.9% sure.
