Please someone out there reply! Hi everyone, I srarted the program back in January. I suffered many years with anxiety however with lots of hard work I was able to come through it. I can't convey how my life has changed-for the better. I still get some anxiety but I am better at coping with it and I never let it visit with me longer than a few hours. My only fear I am unable to shake is the fear of flying and small in-closed spaces(elevators). This is what led me to the program and now I have booked a flight to join my husband on a business trip. Although we do travel frequently it has always been by car. I am very concerned about my ears plugging up or getting dizzy Oh yeh and the dreaded closed in space, other than that I'm excited. I would lke any advice on others experiences, for example do your ears bother you, does the take off bother you, how do you handle being enclosed?

I flew for the first time 2 yrs. ago.I was scared but I told myself if I didnt make myself go I would regret it. Life is passing me by.
So i went and had a wonderful time! I took my emergency meds. my relaxation cd,crosswords, and a book to keep my mind busy and didnt need any of them. Yes turbulance left me a little uneasy and my ears popped too but that is very normal.
You will be fine,go and have a good time.
Dont let life pass you by.

Hi Penu
I dont fly much but have some. I think its great that you have booked the flight and are gonna do it. Take everything you can think of to distract yourself. Books, magazines, music,
crossword puzzles, word search, just whatever works best for you. Strike up a conversation with the person next to you. Whatever it takes.
Don't let the syptoms scare you even if you get dizzy, it will be fine. Chew some gum, I did for my ears it did help. Give yourself a big pat on the back the more you do this the easier it will get. Good luck but I know you will do well. Have a wonderful time and try not to think about it too much. Stay busy.

Penu, yes, I too have a fear of flying..closed in spaces, etc. I've suffered with anxiety and the above mention for a very long time, however I refuse to let them get the best of me :D I've been doing the program for over a year and have come A LONG way! The fear of flying has gotten a little better and I just got back from Chicago last week. We had to change planes twice each way. The second flight being a smaller plane. To be honest, I was a bit nervous, but once I got through the take off I felt better. Chewing gum can help with your ears plugging up etc. We also took our twins two year olds, and I had them chew gum as well...It seemed to help. I try to have conversation with my 'neighbors". I have the gift of gab lol...so I use it to my benefit. My husband can nod off to sleep so easily on a plane it's unreal..I will NEVER be able to do that lol..so I spark up conversation with anyone that will listen. You will be okay, and I hope that you enjoy your time away! Flying is a bit unsettling for me, but I love life and I don't want to miss a thing:) I want to experience it all! TAke care and can't wait to read your post on how well you did!!!
"O God, you are my God. Earnestly I seek you;my soul thirsts for you, my body longs for you, in a dry and weary land where there is no water. I have seen you in the sanctuary and beheld your power and your glory. Because your love is BETTER than life,my lips will glorify you. I will praise you as long as I live, and in your name, I will lift up my hands." Psalms 63

oh yeah, I also heard from another member here that he journals his trips..That's another way to let out any anxiety. I wanted to do that on our last trip, but with babies it's a bit difficult to concentrate on those things, let alone hold a pen steady lol. I also think that reading, crossword puzzles, etc. help you get your mind off of things. hope this helps

Hi,
I was reading all these posts and am so thankful to have people be so encouraging about this. I haven't flown in 14 years! I use to fly and didn't have a problem until something bad happened and we lost an engine off the plane. The plane still made the trip fine all the way home, I just happened to be in the window seat and saw it, I was so nervous and unable to move past that. I also have a fear of heights and closterphobia as well. I really, really want to get over this and am unhappy with how much fear goes into it, so I am trying with anything I can read or do. I'm so proud of you for booking a flight! I can't wait until I am there!
