Is Anxiety Weather Related?
I was just wondering if anyone else gets the "blues" during those gray days of winter. Last night I went to the gym, had a nice dinner with family, and got a good night's sleep (which is unusual for me refer to my earlier posts). I felt really great when I went to bed, then this morning for no apparent reason I just got this oppressive feeling when I woke up. I went to the window and it was like a monsoon out there. I noticed that i get this feeling when it's dark, cloudy, or rainy outside. Does this happen to anyone else or am I seriously depressed?
hi Jug,
I completely believe it can be weather related (or perhaps we allow the negative weather to spur bad thoughts and depress us) but I feel much worse in the winter, again perhaps it is lack of exercise, sun and the like.. im sure it could be a factor I know for me it is.. definitely SAD- look it up online- seasonal affected disorder.
Goodluck!

I usually lose energy when the weather is dreary and get kind of sleepy but I also get less exercise too so that doesn't help. It may also be how we label the day - "Oh crap, it's storming and dark today." as opposed to "It's not a bad day, it's just a rainy day. I'll catch up on some things I haven't done lately if I can't get outside." I turn all the lights on in the house to try to brighten it up as much as I can.
Where I'm from, the saying is, "If you don't like the weather here, just wait a minute!" We can go from minus 45 degrees Celsius to plus 10 in a matter of hours. We can go from a beautiful sunshiney day to a blizzard in the same time frame. Yes... weather definitely plays a part in things... BUT I also think that fresh air, or lack thereof does, too. Since I started walking dogs at our animal shelter, I haven't been seriously sick, with the exception of a bad cold occasionally, for the past three years! I attribute my healthier life to a couple things, being outside in the sun and fresh air, and exercise- two things I was sorely lacking before. I am not depressed anymore, either... just anxious. I still have an occasional blue day, but its usually when I don't get outside. I am outside rain, shine, sleet, blizzard, cold, hot... whatever. Someone should do a poll, and find out how prone to depression mail carriers are! Unless they drive around in mail trucks, I bet most of them are in pretty good health and spirits!
