Dannie, it def sounds like gas alot of people mistake gas pain for chest pain, alot of people with anxiety get the gas more then others because our breathing patterns from anxiety, we let more in, and alot of times when you eat you suck alot of air in which gives you gas, I get those pains too it's def just gas haha your not gonna have a heart attack, I'd say just relax and let the air to the surface and also drink some soda it really helps me with my gas I burp and I start to feel better. So relax and stop worrying being tense only makes the feeling worse cause your muscels tense up and the air can't get through! Take care hun and thanks for the response to my dizzy feelings!
Dannie, I agree with Pino in that a lot of anxious people get gas and that in turns makes a gas bubble in our chest. I also breathe "wrong" and that in turns makes gas for me. esp when I am driving and I have anxiety, I always have water with me to take a gradual sip to get my mind off it but I wind up gulping at times and that is not good. I notice when I am talking during anxious times I inhale and sigh more and I would sometimes inhale to make sure I am not short of breath! I also make myself burp and sometimes a good one will come up and I feel better mentally and physically. You are right, this is one of the many lovely symptoms of our anxiety. There are still ways that anxiety affects me that I had no idea but hope you are able to get a little relief knowing you are not alone in that feeling.

Hi Dannie,
I get chest pains ALL the time. First thing..have you been tested for Acid Reflux? I have that and until a doctor told me to DOUBLE the prescription dose that I had been on for over a year with little help did the pain start to get better. My chest and stomach was killing me and I still suffer from problems when I'm extra anxious or emotional.
Since my husband just had a heart attack in May, I can assure you that you are not having one because you would be dead by now. (LOL) I have been worried of heart attacks for years, so good thing I knew what the symptoms where because I was able to get him treatment immediately when he was ready to go off to work and write it off as "gas".
Keep this in mind...heart attack symptoms are very similar to panic attacks HOWEVER there are noticeable differences. The ER people told me many times as I have rushed there for heart attack help...if you feel like running, its panic. If you cannot walk across the room, call 911 immediately. Plus, everyone I know says that their chest pains were unlike anything and then you have additional symptoms...in my husbands case, sweating (but I sweat during a panic attack) and then it started radiating to his arm.
Now, as I type this, I'm having radiating pain to my arm just from thinking about it. It happens all the time for me (that's why I always fear a heart attack) but again, when you REALLY have one, it is unlike anything and the pain is severe. My husband's chest pain (and then arm pain) was so bad, he needed three shots of morphine to help him get it under control.
I have anxiety problems, which cause all kinds of chest, stomach, throat symptoms, but I have never been in so much pain that I needed morphine. Just a Valium to calm down!
I hope that helps.
You might want to see a stomach doc to have them test for acid reflux because that is something that anxious people commonly have and it causes pain in the chest area. I find myself burping a lot to relieve pain in the chest area. I also drink a lot of Alka Seltzer to help bring up the air.
Also, Pino is right...we tend to have more air in our stomachs when we are anxious.
Good luck with that one.

thanks for all your posts i really appreaciate it. sorry about your husband i hope he is doing better. also iwanted to add that it seems like im not anxious or breathing different, but then again i am still always worrid about if im going to pass out or if something bad is going to happen.. so go figure, but anyways thanks for the posts.
Even if you aren't anxious it's still gas for us I think it is worse and we notice it more then others then again we are always so intune with our bodys because we are anxious people that worry, others don't really pay attention to there bodies and symptoms like that, but for us it's different we are always intune with our symptoms, like I don't feel anxious some of the time and I'll get the dizzy spells and then i'll think about it and it gets worse and worse, I'm sure if we didn't have these awful fears we wouldn't think twice about it. Try not to focus so much on your body keep your mind busy and you probably won't even notice it. Take care and stop worrying your perfectly healthy
dannie,
I too am getting chest pains all the time, sometimes mine last all day long. That was one of the things that was freaking me out. If you aren't short of breath and your heart isn't going a million miles an hour then I doubt it is a heart attack. I would definately go to a doc though if it would ease your mind. my chest pains are all musculo skeletal and they hurt clear through to my back. I have been to the doc alot and I get the same response...anxiety.

That is funny attsila. I run to the doctor for all these things too and I get the same thing...anxiety. Also, my heart races (big time sometimes) and I get short of breath from panic attacks. So, I don't want anyone to confuse that with a heart attack. My husband had a different type of chest pain...but I looked up the list of symptoms and read them to him. He kept saying NO to all of them until he felt it in his left arm. I threw him in the car and rushed him to the ER. He didn't have a choice.
The best thing to do is get it checked out if you feel uncomfortable. I have run to the ER many times SWEARING I was having a heart attack and they give me a valium and send me home.
On the other hand, my husband has had blood flow and numbness in his legs for a couple years. I kept telling him the doctors say that is a precurser to heart attack but he didn't want to hear it. So, I was kind of prepared.
So, there were symptoms leading up to his. Have your blood checked for cholesterol and blood pressure. Those and the numbness in the legs are huge signs. Plus he had gained about 40 lbs in the past couple years.
Blood work will tell a lot and help you relax and find out what "else" might be causing that chest pain. Apparently there are hundreds of things that could cause chest pain. Its frustrating for us that have anxiety.
I went and got a heart stress test anyway just to "be sure". The doctors thought I was silly but it beats the heck out of running to the ER all the time.
Get a physical if that will make you feel better. It helped me.

My chest feels tight...it doesn't really hurt. And as far as the burping goes, I am experiencing the same thing! I don't notice being anxious or anything...it happens with me all day, every day. I can drink water and burp for 2 hours. And sometimes I have to make myself burp because it feels like it is stuck in my chest and I get scared. I have never had indigestion or stomach problems...and all the sudden I am having all kinds issues. It's a scary feeling.
I am so relieved i have been having the same prob for the past 9-10 months. Feels like gas stuck in my chest like i have to burp. Sometimes i get acid reflux. This is prob due to the fact I dont eat much (due to anxiety) have lost 35-40 lbs now my stomache hurts all the time whether i eat or not. I am so glad someone else has the same symptoms. Well not glad because it still sucks. Thanks all and God Bless!
