I post on other message boards aswell mainly because things can be a bit quiet around here, but unlike here where there is so much positivity I find alot of other boards very negative and the replies leave you feeling like it would be best to just jump from the nearest cliff. Every method to cure anxiety gets a bashing including this one, I think it may be better just hanging out here where there is somuch positive support.

I definitely think you should spend your time on boards that are supportive. There are lots of poorly moderated boards that just let the lunatics run the asylum.

Hello Schappy,
So I see you around the forums, and by the sounds of it you suffer from depression and anxiety, correct? You are also following the Lucinda Bassett course as well I see, but are anxious to see some quicker progress? I don't know what your age is, but if you have been dealing with this for any length of time, you know by now nothing happens overnight. You didn't become anxious and depressed overnight, although an event may have brought everything to the surface very quickly.

Your statement of it being easier to just jump off the nearest cliff can easily be traced back to the conditions you currentlt seek help for, or they're stated simply to raise a response by others on the forum. Hopefully your issues are in fact real, and that those of us willing to take the time to offer ideas and possibly guidance will be taken as such, and utilized accordingly.

Your condition is not unique, depression and anxiety can take a heavy toll on anyone that looks at the world as "Half Empty." As for your interaction with the course, if you want to get into the meat of it, listen and read ahead. The weekly course speed is a guidline, it's not set in stone. Some folks just get through things quicker than others, so see what's coming today. You may well get on the road to recovery that much faster, but keep in mind the program in of itself may not be all you have to do to finally regain control of your life.

I am assuming you also participate in therapy sessions, possibly take medication, have some sort of support-line to fall back on, and or have ruled out any major underlying illness? That would be the bare bones minimum you should have behind you, along with actively following the course. These forums can be both good and bad, especially for folks who are in genuine despair. Many posts are well thought out, and actually offer great advise, others, not so much! Just be careful of how you use the boards, common sense reins supreme here. If it sounds too good to be true, it probably isn't, and if someone includes a statement simalr to yours, we can only hope you/they have some stop-gap measures available so a really bad day doesn't turn into a life altering event or outcome.

Knowone but you is going to be able to "Get a Grip" or eventually "Come Around", and not just "Snap Out of It!!!" It takes work and dedication on your part, as well as the part of your therapist, medications if you take them, and those around you, wanting to help get you back on track with your life.

Changing your negative thinking will be key to your overall success with breaking loose from your anxiety and debilitating depression. It won't happen overnight, so hunker down and be prepared to fight through this with the undying belief that you will emerge as the human being you were meant to be. Yes there is light at the end of the tunnel, and yes you can achieve this through behavior modification and changes in your life. Without change, you will be destined to run around on a wheel like a mouse getting no closer to sucess then where you are today. You have to want to get better more than anything else in life, PERIOD!!!

If you don't find the forums helpful, or they cause more anxiety and depression then you're aleady dealing with, I would stay off them until you become better equipped to tolerate the hundreds of frail minds that come here in hopes of getting better. None of us is the burning bush. We share our experiences so that others know they are not alone in their struggle. That there are literally hundreds of thousands of people trying to figure out why their lives have been turned upside down, and how they cope with, and even improve over time. Internet therapy, you just have to keep an open mind, and not take every reply to heart. Granted there are some real "SICKOS" out there having a good chuckle at anothers grave situation. We can all only hope that person or persons never has to face a life of anxiety and depression, that has left them out of control...
