This is the first time i have ever been on hear. I have actually been having panic attacks for about 4 years now. It started almost a year to the date after my dad died. I was heavily into drugs and alchol and smoking. Then all of the sudden the attacks started and i went to the hospital ER almost every day i was a mess. Not to mention i had just lost my job due to the drugs and alcohol so i had no insurance. Well then I found out what i was going through and started to get myself better by learning everything i could about anxiety attacks. Since then I've been sober drug free and quit smoking. I also got myself a great job with the government. I was almost on top of the world. I was having the attacks but not as bad. And I knew how to deal with them. Now for about the last two to three weeks I've almost completly lost myself. Every day is non stop panic attacks. I'm lost and can't figure out how to stop them. I need help very badly I don't know how to turn back around. Is there anyone who can help?

Hey Mike !

Well, getting off the drugs is an excellent start ! Now the work begins. IT takes a lot of work getting on top of the panic attacks. But once you do, it's awesome. I've had panic attacks since grade school. They came and went over the years and then all of a sudden they kept happening over and over again. The program suggests journalling. I didn't really want to do that, but once I started, I couldn't stop. Once I realized what was bothering me and what the causes of the attacks were, I was able to stop it in it's tracks. If you can beat drugs, you can beat panic attacks too. Don't give up !

DO you have the tapes to the anxiety and depression program? They do help and listening to them you realize that you are not alone...there are many people going through what you just described. I am on my third week into the program having suffered with anxiety, panic attacks and depression for a long time...and you do learn tools that teach you how to get over panic attacks and be more of a positive thinker. SO don't give up...there is hope out there! If you don't already have the program, get it. And if you do have it...start using it :) Stay positive and know you will overcome this...have a blessed day

I am no expert by no means, but here is my two cents. I really feel for what you are going through. Congrats on overcoming drugs and alcohol, that within itself was a major accomplishment. I have been dealing with panic attacks since Dec09 but I probably have been dealing with it since I was young, but didnt know the signs, but I am here to tell you that you did it once you can do it again.

You stated that you work for the govt, well don't you have insurance? Have you spoken to your Family Dr? If not, I suggest you do that first. Yes, I know it might seem embarassing to tell anyone what you are going through, but you have to share it with someone. Do you have a support system? Do you attend church? Siblings? Mother? The best that helps me is when I talk with someone about what I am feeling. I didnt want to at first, but I had too. My mother died from breast cancer in July 2008 and she was the one person who really knew me and there are times that I feel that I alone, but I know that I am not.

This site has some really great people on here, and I have some great support. Come into the chat room sometime and just VENT!!!! it does help.

Oh, I did go to the ER several times in Dec 09, thinking I was having a heart attack, but it was all in my head and I had to deal with that, but I now go to a therapist once a week and I hope to purchase this program. I wishing you nothing but success and my prayers are with you. Remember you did it once and you will do it again!!!!!
